July 27, 201114 yr Hello all,The recent discussion of trackIR made me wonder, whether this technology is compatible with 3d monitors (using the Nvidia 3d standard)? By saying compatbile I mean does turning your head forth and back hurt the 3d experience? And a related question - does 3d work for all fsx addons, so it should flawlessly work for the NGX? Has any NGX beta tester used a 3d monitor and can attest this?As you can guess I'm considering getting a 3d monitor, but it is hard for me to guess now whether this really becomes a standard technology, or it is still a gadget rather.cheers,Jakub Jakub Szewczyk

As you translate your head up, down, forward, back and side-to-side, the "3D focus" automatically adjusts to ensure there is no distortion in the stereo image. A zoom of about 0.48 really accentuates the depth perception while giving you a slightly more natural but wider view. If, for example, you moved your head in close to the monitor to look at the throttle quadrant, or the magnetic compass, you would actually see it begin to pop out of the screen as if you had your nose up to it in real life. And in the 737NGX, you would actually see how the magnetic compass is in fact truly 3D!I have used nVidia 3D vision and Track IR 5 with several different payware add-ons including the PMDG 744, and it works flawlessly. The only issue with 3D is the fact that FSX does not model its lighting in 3D. You will find all lighting effects (runway, aircraft, PAPI, city lights) are positioned at screen depth, which makes night flying in the 3D somewhat distracting. Some other users have expressed concern about the reduction in light of the stereo image compared to the standard 2D visual. This doesn't concern me though, and it's easily ignored in most cockpits by switching the flood lighting on.I can't suggest trying this enough, despite FSX's shortcomings. It's totally worth it, and I wonder why other this really hasn't caught on yet.Hope this helps!Cheers,Troy Troy K

What really bothered me is that the 3d focus did not adjust automaticaly, so I had to do it manualy adjust depending on where I looked to (how far fms, overhead, mcp, ddu). Not doing it I got a head ache. So I'm really interrested how to activate or set up this "3d focus" function. But on the other hand I succeeded in resolving the light problem in 3d. (PAPI RWY edge etc.) IZ3D Driver! It duplicates the effect lights and looks perfect in 3d http://www.iz3d.com/select_download Boldizsar Szilyhttp://www.lhsimulations.hu/
July 27, 201114 yr Troy,I have a 3DTV that is hooked up to my computer... I have never got a straight answer on the setup process...What all is needed? Will the NVIDIA stereo stuff work with a 3DTV, or just a 3D monitor? Thanks! <---------------> Mike Murawski
July 27, 201114 yr Mike,You only have to get the NVIDIA 3dTV play software, and I think your TV needs a 1.4. HDMI interface.Make sure you set the correct frequency for your display.I bought a 3DTV (LG cinema 3D) last weekend and it works fine.Peter Kahr

Troy, how did you make this 3d focus thing work? I am using Free TrackIR, and I wonder whether this auto-focus capability is something that comes with nvidia+fsx, or is it something that has to do with TrackIR itself? Jakub Jakub Szewczyk
July 28, 201114 yr Hi Jakub! The 3d autofocus is rather related to nVidia, I think. I'm not able to turn it on though. Boldizsar Szily http://www.lhsimulations.hu/

As I recall, nVidia's instructions were not quite clear as far as managing the different drivers, but I believe a standard GPU driver AND 3D driver are required to get the whole thing to work. Also, ensure that your GPU is compatible with nVidia's 3D vision. "3D autofocus" should be automatic if you've successfully installed everything on compatible hardware. I did not have to specifically activate that feature. I am not sure if it originates on Track IR's side or nVidia's, but I would imagine nVidia as you suggested. Thanks for the lighting fix, I'll give it a try here! Regards, Troy Troy K
July 31, 201114 yr Hi Viond and Troy! I have created an instruction sheet for you: Boldizsar Szilyhttp://www.lhsimulations.hu/
July 31, 201114 yr I don't own 3D anything, but I wonderHow does it look in FSX, do you feel as if you can touch your cockpit?
July 31, 201114 yr Hi Jamalje,Check out youtube. They have a ton of videos on the subject. Search for "fsx surround", that will bring up tons of videos. I have to say though that none do it justice and you really have to experience it. I pondered the idea for a while and the videos looked intriguing but I was pretty blown away and am just about every time I load up FSX (or any game for that matter). I use yesterdays technology though, but it's pretty much the same. I use the Triplehead2go unit but with todays cards would say to invest in one of them rather than waste money in the T2G. It's the best addition I ever did to my simming hands down, and this is coming from someone that once dumped thousands into pit building. Also, it increases my work flow for web design, photo/video editing, etc, to where I can't imagine how I ever did without it. I made this vid last year to answer a couple questions some friends had. It's pretty low quality but goes beyond the game only aspect of multi-monitor. i9 10920x @ 4.8 ~ MSI Creator x299 ~ 256 Gb 3600 G.Skill Trident Z Royal ~ EVGA RTX 3090ti ~ Sim drive = M.2 2-TB ~ OS drive = M.2 is 512-gb ~ 5 other Samsung Pro/Evo mix SSD's ~ EVGA 1600w ~ Win 10 Pro Dan Prunier

Hi, Dan, thanks for the video, this is an investment I think would be great to have gives an advantage over the HAT Switch, I have two screens connected to my Graphics Card, but Windows 7 (I think) doesn't allow horizontal spanning, and so this is the best way to go Thanks once again for the video.
