July 27, 201114 yr Hello!I am contemplating upgrading my PC system in favor of my beloved FS9 (FS2004)As of now I run an obsolete system standard from 2003-2004 with a single core AMD FX-55 processor,2 gigs of RAM and an old ATI X-800 graphics card, all manufactured around 2003.So now I wonder if anyone could tip me if there is any point in upgrading (buying a new system)with today's standards (multicore processor, more RAM, a PCI-Express video card, etc.) just for my FS9?Would performance be any better with regard to framrates especially..... a.s.o.I would be grateful for advice and experience regarding this. Thanks a lot in advance.Hans HermanssonSweden
July 27, 201114 yr Performance would be through the roof with FS9 on a 2nd Gen I5/7 like mine. FSX is very, very enjoyable too. But more about that later. What is your budget and are you building or buying a pre-built? ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

July 27, 201114 yr AMD processor for MSFS? FS9 will run fine, but why limit yourself like that? Get at least an i3, if not an i5 or i7. If you really must have an AMD processor, at least wait until they release the FX series in September.

For that amount you can get a decent lower end 2500k system, which will perform much, MUCH better. Lemme see... Will edit my post when I find an example! Again, are you building or buying pre-built?If pre-built, I'm curious what country you're in so I know your options. But to prove my point: iBUYPOWER Computers With that system, you can get a 2500k, Z68 motherboard, and GTX 560ti for just over $800... It will handle any situation much better than the fastest AMD offering. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 28, 201114 yr Author Hello again! I live in Sweden, am a retired teacher of 64 years old and a very dedicated flightsimmer. I am quite happy with FS2004 and will probably not use FSX. My little problem is one of framerates; when I try to use FSDreamteams fine airports I get very poor performance (12-14 fps typically), so my aim is to just get better results; As for PC systems in Sweden prices vary a lot and I have found a website here which deals exclusively with gamer PC's assembled by them at very affordable prices; the lowest in Sweden. The site also gets very good reviews from customers. And, they recommend and use AMD processors and ATI Radeon video cards. So, my idea is just to speed up performance for demanding addons, like FSDreamteam's airports Take care! Hans in Sweden
July 28, 201114 yr Hello again. I really believe the processor you mentioned will leave you wanting more, especially at heavy sceneries with traffic. I know my Core 2 (which is much in line with performance to the Athlon [mine was overclocked, too] system) struggled at times in heavy situations in FS9. I would still very much suggest a faster, just as affordable i5 2500k system, but you seem to have made up your mind. Good luck and keep us posted! ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
July 28, 201114 yr The thing is that FS9 runs in a single thread, so it's much better to have a fast dual core, like an I3 2100, than a "slow" Athlon X4 quad coreFor FS, NVidia is better than ATI. I would get something like a GTX 550 Ti
