August 1, 201114 yr Well I must say from the stand point of one just looking and trying to understand the complexities of which you all speak, I can see how this kind of subject matter can be so difficult to convey to the unlearned group like myself. Christopher Elliott did convey a little that I could sort of grasp. The candy and the highway was interesting perspectives and helpfull. From the standpoint of observing as a VERY new guy, I found the attacking a little unsettling, and very reluctant to be heard. Everyones points appear very valid. However I would like to be as ready as possible for the coming NGX and would like to know what is the minimum configuration I'm going to need to enjoy the NGX even with little scenery (which I do like). My only source of income is in jepordy (Washington children play roulette), I will have to watch my pennies....yes...it's down to that. At present, I have a Sata West Dig 500gb HD with Windows 7 Ult x64 and a WD 500gb with xp x32, both have FSX and both will avail fps between 9 and 22 with PMDG 747 when panel and objects displayed with adujusting the sliders. Outside the aircraft I get about 25 to 35 fps. I can get smooth movement on both. Is my setup going to be able to handle the NGX?? Would appreciate any help... August 1, 201114 yr I agee with Zach. In my original post I was expressing a hope to the forum that the flight simulator world will go all 64 bit at some point with programs coded and compiled for 64 bit processors. I'm already using a 64-bit flight simulator with a 64-bit OS, it's not science fiction, and you can test it yourself: compile FlightGear ! But don't expect it will be faster or smoother than the 32-bit version. It's like expecting your car will go faster on a highway with 64 lanes than on a highway with 32 lanes. The number of lanes will not make your car faster if you're alone.Of course, being able to address more memory space is great, use larger data units also. But most "out of memory" errors are caused by bugs or "memory leaks", when too much objects have been created by a simulator or module or plug-in, sometimes it's also bug in graphic driver. So before expecting "64-bit PMDG products", you should ask if the future simulators they'll use will be 64-bit. Will MS Flight be a 64-bit program ? For X-Plane, it's "on the radar". Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -

What kind of performance do you get now?
