December 21, 200322 yr Just got FS9....no prob installing, but I get a CTD everytime. Crash happens when I have selected ac/flight and click on "fly now." Sim loads fast and fine up to 77%, when weather starts loading, then I get the CTD every single time. No help in the MS error message (no reference to dll's etc).Have no 3rd party AC or scenery. Searched and found some crashes related to seasonal changes...tried all those fixes, including new terrain cfg. from german site...no change.Any ideas greatly appreciated! Dell 1.8, 512 RAM, GeForce 3, 5303 drivers....never a problem running fs2002.Regards
December 21, 200322 yr Hi Roy!You say that you have no add-on secenery. Those (winter textures)might cause some problems! But what about the add0on cloud textures? - some of those might cause CTD
December 21, 200322 yr Are you using real world weather? Because recently, when I want to download rwr, the sim hangs, and I need to restart the PC...dunno why, it worked before.-Daniel
December 21, 200322 yr Use of the NOCD patch will now cause that sort of problem...apparantly a result of recent MS actions to protect its anti-piracy tactic in the form of requiring the CD to boot the sim.
December 21, 200322 yr In my answer, I was referring to the use of real weather. Sorry for not saying so!After changing to some add-on cloud textures, I got a lot of CTD
December 21, 200322 yr I had this happen when I added the panelAsTexture=0 line to my fs9.cfg, and had AA and AF selected on my card. By removing the panelAsTexture line, I went back to normal.- JD
December 21, 200322 yr I began experiencing exactly the same problem this morning, after using FS9 (almost daily) successfully for over three months. It crashes at the 77% mark, loading weather. I tried changing from the default fair weather to cold fronts, and this seemed to work. It loaded everything and I was able to take off, but after repeated attempts taking off from Seattle in the MS Beech Baron, I have yet to be able to make a simple loop around the airport and land. CTD every time, but in different places. Also tried changing the season to summer, since I had read about problems with the fall scenery, but that doesn't seem to make a difference.I do have some scenery addons - BlueSphere, LA MegaScenery, water textures, etc., but these have never caused any problems before today. Last night my anti-virus caught a variant of the swen virus, which it immediately quarantined. I just got through running Symantec's removal tool for the w32.swen.A@mm (after doing a complete virus scan of the whole system) and it couldn't find anything.Maybe somebody will see something here that I'm missing.Athlon 2800, 1024 Ram, FX5700 w/53.03 drivers, XP Pro
December 22, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi, You have to use the 32 bits clouds set, not DXT3 clouds and you can leave render to texture to off or on. -DXT3 clouds cause CTD at weather loading all the time if render to texture is disabled. -Many Panel and aircraft need to leave off render to texture, you will not able to use DXT3 clouds format which is not the standard for clouds.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
December 22, 200322 yr Thx Harold and others for the feedback. My CTD occurred exactly at the 77% loading point also John. Chris' suggestion did the trick...switching from the dxt3 to 32 bit clouds seems to have done the trick. Thx Chris for all your great work...makes the sim playable on my system with excellent framerates!Regards,
December 22, 200322 yr Thanks, Chris - that did it! I just enabled Render to texture and all is well. Now the sequence of events makes sense. I had just installed the new KSAN file and wanted to try it out; since I have MegaScenery I changed to their recommended settings, which included disabling Render to texture. Looking back at it now, I should have put two & two together, but sometimes things aren't obvious until you've gotten past them.I appreciate your prompt response, and I'll grab the 32-bit clouds.
December 22, 200322 yr Commercial Member Hi, Conlusion: Use 32 bits clouds from the highest clouds performance v2 or fps and fix v2 files only to avoid many error from others addons panel, aircraft, scenery, mega scenery etc etc and you can leave your render to texture Off with no problems at allPs: Fs Sky World 2004 will not have any low DXT3 but only 32 bits and standard quality with new realsim clouds!ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
December 22, 200322 yr The latest upgrade for Zone Alarm pro will prevent the sim from going MP and downloading the weather. Took me about 2 days to find out what it was that kept FS9 from connecting.I disabled Zone... and everything works great. I un-installed it and went to the next to last upgrade and have no problems.Joe W.
