August 2, 201114 yr Hi there, I have a newbie question; When I fly the adv tutorial, after take off, when you have to vector 110, I cant get the plane to vector to that heading. There is a button above the heading selector; trk and hdg, what does it do?Also, after I apply 75% power and pressing the auto flight Im not always getting the t/o thrust message. I get the t/o clamp instead and the rest of the messages on the PFD get messed up i.e. I sometimes dont get the messages I suppose the get according to the tutorial. How can I make sure that I do the take off procedure right? What should I look for?I can do the easy tutorial, everything works there although I had problems with the t/o messages also. Can anybody help me with this? http://www%28%29.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_trijet.jpg
August 2, 201114 yr Gary, just a tip. While taxiing to the RWY, arm NAV [1] and PROF [2] mode by clicking on each of the buttons on your glareshield once. One thing that should be annunciated in your PFD is 'NAV armed'. After lining up to the RWY in use, arm "Auto Thrust" by pushing the "AUTO FLIGHT" [3] button. If ATS is armed, the corresponding rectangle on the PFD will disappear [4]. You'll get the message "Thrust set!" if your engines' N1 reaches the pre-calculated value by the FMS. Watch N1 arise on your EAD when autothrust is on. Notice that "Thrust set!" isn't annunciated before N1 (or the needles) reaches the small magenta "v" s . best regards, toby Tobias Artinger - 3D & VFX Artist - Wuppertal, Germany
August 2, 201114 yr Hi Toby, I was just about finished typing when you posted a much better explanation than mine. Nice one Best Regards, Dan Parkin.
August 2, 201114 yr Hehe, thank you Dan. Was aware of being late in posting my explanation. ;) If I can, I explain things with text and pictures to illustrate what I'm talking about the visual way as well. Tobias Artinger - 3D & VFX Artist - Wuppertal, Germany
August 2, 201114 yr Author Thank you guys, I will try it this evening. So I can arm PROF even if the first leg of the flight isn't part of the flight plan? Anyone for the change of heading or will this work if I get the above right? http://www%28%29.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_trijet.jpg
August 2, 201114 yr Hi there, I have a newbie question; When I fly the adv tutorial, after take off, when you have to vector 110, I cant get the plane to vector to that heading. There is a button above the heading selector; trk and hdg, what does it do? Oups, forgot about explaining this one... In an airplane like the MD-11 you are able to navigate via MAGnetic north or the TRUE north [PMDG SYSTEMS INST.30.1] If you select a heading of 065 degrees but a strong wind from let's say 345° hits your airplane, your track will be different to compensate for the wind component in order to maintain your preselected heading. To navigate to a specific heading, while NAV-mode is armed, just turn the heading selector knob to the desired heading, in this case 110°, and pull it (RMB = Right Mouse Button). Otherwise you'll disable the NAV mode as well and continue on current heading (LMB). Last, you want to proceed to the next waypoint on your flightplan, simply re-engage NAV mode by clicking on the same button you did to arm the NAV mode (you can do this also with PROF) NAVwill give you lateral guidance PROFprovides vertical guidance to your aircraft Tobias Artinger - 3D & VFX Artist - Wuppertal, Germany
August 2, 201114 yr Author Hi guys thanks for the reply! The auto thrust help was very usefull, I understand it better and it worked out! I can also use the heading indicator now, also thanks for that! I had some other problems though..I hope the picture can tell what Im doing wrong. According to the manual everything in the FMA should be magenta (p29). I dont have magenta thrust and altitude..What am I doing wrong? And how do I post a large in mail pic? http://www%28%29.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_trijet.jpg
August 2, 201114 yr Commercial Member Press FMS Speed and press PROF to place the aircraft fully back on its own guidance. As a side note, there's absolutely no reason to have Engine A/I on at this temp/altitude, especially since there's no visible moisture around you (note the NO ICE DETECTED, which means, "okay, you can turn it off there, boss"). August 3, 201114 yr Author Oke thanks, I will try that this evening! Will it descent automatically too when Im at my TOD? Why do I have to press FMS Speed and PROF?Isn't the speed set after the autothrottle is engaged? http://www%28%29.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_trijet.jpg
August 3, 201114 yr If you use autothrust, the thrust is automatically managed to obtain your selected speed on the glareshield. You should press FMS speed to have your speed managed by the inputs of your MCDU.So, why on PROF? - Read my post above what PROF actually does. That should answer your question. If you're finally reaching your TOD, dial in your cleared descend altitude just a couple of miles before TOD and your MD-11 will start to descend at TOD with your speed managed wisely by the MCDU, but only if you've set your speed to be managed though.
