CPU MOBO RAM upgrade advice please?

Featured Replies

Hello guys, Im pretty new to computer upgrading etc so go easy on me smile.gif just looking for a little advice please.Right, I have a packard Bell intel core 2 quad Q8300 on a EG43M Motherboard. Now I know I am VERY restricted to what I can upgrade on this as its prebuilt (dont shoot me had it about 2 years I know I am silly), However I brought a GTX 560ti from Scan and a 650w PSU a few weeks back.I use FS9 (do have FSX but have never been able to get above 15 fps lol, and have been told I am bottlenecking quite badly with this as i am still getting poor FPS in flight simulators.I've been advised that flight Sims run mostly off CPU not GPU, so how can i go about upgrading this?Would I be right in saying I could buy a case and then a CPU & Motherboard and id be able to do this??btw, ive looked on Scan and found a prebuilt over clocked bundle, Smart - Intel Core i5 2500K - Over clocked to 4.5Ghz Does this sound viable or am I way off?? Also wasn’t looking to spend any more than around £350 if that’s possible??Thanks a lot, Adam

Well, you've got the right graphics card. Hopefully that's a quality PSU. You know you need a decent ATX case. If the bundle comes with a 2500k, decent 1600MHz RAM, and a decent motherboard (what motherboard?), I'd say you're set. I'm not having trouble seeing the Case+MOBO+CPU+RAM upgrade for that budget. Let me get back to you. EDIT: Given Google's pounds to dollars conversion, I had a target of $569.97. As if by some sort of magic, I built a system for almost exactly that on Newegg. Of course, you can't use Newegg because of shipping, but here's the basic components I threw together. I'll share the wishlist soon.

Thanks for that Zach , just having a look on scan (free delivery in UK), Would the below be ok?? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/coolermaster-690-ii-advanced-white-mid-tower-case-w-o-psu Case http://www.scan.co.uk/3xs-overclocked-bundles (The top left bundle £ 338 ) Which consists of:(The bundle with i5 overclocked to 4.5Ghz,) Mobo- MSI P67AG-45 INTEL P67 CHIPSET RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz.

That's a start! It's a cheap 2500k system, and you'll be happy with it's performance. Especially for that price. I would, however, splurge and get the H60 cooler on there, at least. I'm not sure how I'd like the white 692 case in my room, but it's a great case.

Lol, my room is white so thats why i choose that one :) So, if i brought that case, and that bundle with the H60, I would have ; PSU: 650W Hale ModularGPU: GeForce GTX 560Ti, 1gb.CPU:Intel Core i5 2500k 3.3ghz overclocked to 4.5ghz ,Cooler: Corsair H60Mobo: MSI P67A-G45 Intel P67 ChipsetRAM: 4gb DDR3 1600Mhz. How would this system run FS9/FSX roughly???

FS9 will be retired.biggrin.png FSX will be put in it's place, and the NGX will be a real option for you then.
It's quite wonderous how PMDG dictates the market. With only one aircraft they will probably push most of the people from FS9 to FSX.
Heck, it's dictating some folks vacations and daily habits!
Incredible, yeah. I mean, I'm excited too, but I'm going to work, in the evening, check the forums, OK, hype is up, but not released... right, back tomorrow... but this. It's just incredible what people are capable of.
