August 3, 201114 yr Author in the pinned post on this error there is nothing said about what to do when running Norton. This is starting to bum me out. Someone must know something about this. That pinned post was from april 2010. Bill

August 4, 201114 yr Author After I made RC trusted in Norton I made it a little farther on the 1st tutorial flight. I uninstalled and reinstalled in my C drive not program files and will give that a try tonight. Bill
August 5, 201114 yr Author I am still getting the error with Norton enabled. If I disable Norton RC works fine, did the first tutorial flight all the way through. Are there any people running RC with Norton sucessfully. If there is I would like to know what they did to get it to run. From what I have been reading in the threads this is no NEW problem so there must be an answer. Bill
August 5, 201114 yr Is FS trusted as well? If you are using FS real-time weather make sure it is. Also if using a weather application with real-time downloads make sure it is trusted as well. Maybe there is a conflict here. I use FS9 under XP SP3. I fired up a flight with just a parked aircraft and RC started with a plan. I checked running services/apps and only FS and RC were running. Another user claimed he saw RC3.exe running at the same time as rcv4.exe. I did not see that. RC4 does not fire up any rcv3 task. Your RC4 version is 4.3845, correct? In your RCV4 folder you will see an rcv3.dat file but it is not a task, just a data file that stores your paths and last selections, options, etc. If you are using Win Security Essentials and the Win Firewall make sure RC is trusted in those. Prior to a flight RC accesses your various FS application folders under your documents folder. Everything else is communicated via calls to FSUIPC. If you are running any concurrent applications they also might be accessing various folders so be sure they are trusted in Norton. Norton does monitor interprocess communications (Windows messaging) between running apps but usually will throw an error 713 but may reduce the access of a running application such as RC. That is the heuristic protection of Norton where if it sees a an application accessing via Win messaging or file reads too often of an app running in a Program Files folder it will think it is malware. If you are using Active Sky it has a weather snapshot file that may be read periodically by FS when weather is updated especially if using AS real time which writes that file every few minutes. Be sure AS is trusted as well both for Internet and application file access. Is the error specific to RC? I don't use Norton any more because of poor subscription update processes. They always failed and had to be done by a Norton tech for XP. So I can't test that for you. A log file created (see pinned topic) that will save when you quit RC on an error should show what file was being accessed or other process that triggered the error 75. You will find advice posted on many forums not to install FS and FS related apps in any Program Files folder tree. That simplifies security access among FS and its add-ons.
August 5, 201114 yr Author Hello; When I start FS9 there is also a program running called [ FSDT control panel lite]. I dont rcall what this is. But I will shut it down and try to do a flight and see what happens. If that fails I will send in a log file. Bill
August 6, 201114 yr Author yes I have a couple of there planes, do you think this might be cousing RC to crash with the error. Bill
August 6, 201114 yr Author OK completed Tutorial 1 wth Norton disabled. So I guess if I have to unplug my modem and disable Norton to be able to use RC4 that is what I will do. This is a really cool program. Beats hell out of the default ATC which has you turning all over the sky. I hope somebody comes up with a fix though. On to tutorial 2. Bill
August 6, 201114 yr You don't have to unplug your modem. Unless your modem is also acting as hub/switch while you are in FS, just disable the Ethernet port. When you are done you can reenable it. It should be under network connections\local area network in your control panel. For disabling you can right click on the network port icon on the right side of the task bar. I actually do this anyway so I can shut down protection services to free up resources while running FS.
