Do I need to keep Technical Records?

Featured Replies

Heres a thought, Do I need to keep a aircraft journey log due to the realistic application of service life on specific parts for each specific aircraft? I intend to do "proper" maintance to my entire NG fleet, but how do I know what the service life of each part is? Are we told in anyway either via the aircraft itself how many hours and cycles have been accumulated and what needs to be taken care of at certain times though any documentation? Thoughts?

Very nice thought Mr. W. I think we'll all have do some reading up on the failures system to understand it fully but I think I see what you're getting at. Do my actions mean that I'm wearing out part A faster than I should be? Does this airframe have a recuring issue with a specific system (a Friday afternoon system if you will)? Subtleties like that sound a bit too much for what is already a great step forward for an airframe like this but PMDG have had a habit of suprising us so far with this aircraft.

Best Regards,

Dan Parkin.

Well you first need an Aircraft Discrepancy Binder so you can log all your maintenance actions.. I am not sure about in the civilian world, but we have quite a number of tabs in ours (unscheduled maintenance actions, TD's, oil consumption for engines/gearboxes, specials & phased maintenance inspections, and all the weight balance sheets for various basic configurations)... I don't think you will have any issues with NGX though, and it would be more trouble than it was worth. It takes a long time to write actions, update the ADB, and purge anything over 10 flights ago. I do it everyday. That is part of the fun for me with FSX is getting to cast all that stuff away. Granted I did debate it at one point I quickly abandoned the idea, lol.

Heh, I wouldnt take it to that depth, I was thinking more along the lines of just being able to know that I should change the various parts or fluids as Im near an certain amount of hours, Swap tires at XXX cycles etc etc. Without keeping tabs on hours and cycles physically, how do I know when Im pushing the limits of a certain system, or fluid. I guess my question hinges on if we even have that ablility to perform maintance. Cheers

Shane, In the failures menu that is accessed from the FMC, each system has a "Next Service In" line that shows how many hours you have left until the suggested service time.

Perfect,I use a set of company specific checklists, and under the "Documents, Logbooks, and Gear Pins" section of the preflight check, I actually now have something to check on that one. Thanks for your responce, any insight as to what those selectable services are?
