August 4, 201114 yr I was messing around today and found a neat little utility inside the the rc4 folder (rc wav utility) so I ended up doing an entire controller voice set, but its not very good, its slow and sounds really weird compared to the meatwater pack. I had an idea, this is how I use RC4, I like using SIDS and STARS now my first way point is usually the transition of a SID, no problem there, and my last waypoint is the beginning of a STAR thats the last waypoint rc4 see's and some of them are still very far away the the airport, so Im still on a center freq, now following the STAR in my fmc can lead to rc4 ######in to me that Im off course, so in the settings I changed the Heading deviation to 50 degrees, so now I can simply follow my STAR all the way in until getting passed over to Approach where Im either vectored or I can request an IAP, now I also always use NOTAMS for my arrival, why? because I like the soft restrictions it gives, it allows me to follow the VNAV profile I'm on, what I don't like is the wav file that gives the big Notams warning everytime, its not realistic if your flying into a non mountainous area, So I found that wav file named star1and made my own script, instead of it now going on about terrain and all that jazz it says "your cleared for the arrival into the airport, if feasible" then it would say descend FL XXX, its working pretty good, I have tried to mimic some of the accents of the controllers so it blends in more. If any of these controllers were still around it would be great if they could just do this to 1 0r 2 wav files, star1 and I think the other one is star6, that way if you have notams checked it will kinda give you a general clearance to follow a STAR, anyways it does not sound to bad, I just have to work on a cheeky British accent and try to make my voice a little louder.
August 5, 201114 yr Commercial Member do not change the heading deviation to 50 degrees. all sorts of things will go wrong. please read the docuementation on how stars work in rc. they end at the 40 mile radius when you contact approach. if you want to fly, what you are calling a star, ask for an iap approach when you contact approach. that's what it's there for. it's explained quite thoroughly in the manual jd JD Read my blog
August 5, 201114 yr Author Actually I have been using that 50 degree deviation since 2007 and have yet to have a problem if I go more then that like 80 I know it can mess things up, this is not really a support question, I just made it so the WAV file gives me a cleared for arrival message instead of the the notams advisory, sounds cooler for me anyway.
August 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member what's the point of 50 degrees. if you can't stay within 15 degrees of an assigned heading, there are more important issues to deal with. if you did it so you can fly a star to a runway, then put it back to 15, and ask for an iap approach when you contact approach jd JD Read my blog
