Nvidea 5900XT a non Radion tale

Featured Replies

After much though I decided to go the NON Ati route with my graphics card. I was upgrading from a GeForce 4 4200ti. Plus I was having touble sourcing an ATI card in my home city. After doing some research I decided to go for the 5900 XT. The 9800 was

What's a 5900 XT????

No idea what a 5900 XT is here, either. Please explain. But as it's Nvidia, not Nvidea and Radeon, not Radion, possibly it's a FX, not XT?Allcott

Wow........that's good news. I've been looking for a new Vid. card for some time but have been reluctant to "jump ship" over to ATI. Rather sneaky of Nvidia though...

My, my. Now they're stooping to theft of ATI's brand name. And trying to convince the not to informed consumer that their new budget product is better than ATI's flagship. If I had any respect left for Nvidia, it's completely gone now. What a lame move. Shame on you Nvidia. Hope ATI sues your pants off.

Just goes to show that ATI has really put the screws to them when they stoop to stealing sales by attempting to trick people with name games. Typical nVidia, they lost me as a customer when not a single thing on the planet supported there 5x mode of AA. Happy here with the real 9800 XT running with everything maxed out.

Isn't it funny that such reviews are all about speed and there is little or no mention of image quality which, I would have thought, was an equally important consideration before deciding which card to go for.Mike ..........a FIRM ATI convert ;)

RE: nVidia's new naming conventions... "Imatation is the sincerest form of flattery".Seems like a nice performing card at a very good price. Likely that the big winner here is the consumer.Evenso... I'll stick with my ATI. nVidia will have to offer something much better before I go back to them.

Since when do "letters" constitute a "brand name".The company I work for has a 4040XP and 4XP switching system, and believe me, Microsoft did not ask permission, nor were required to when they named their product Windows XP.Terms like SE, Pro, FX, and all that are in the public domain. It's not like they called it the GeForce Radeon. Please get a grip. And quoting from the article"It

OK. I can see the way this thread is developing and to be honest it's pathetic. My post was simply stating that I had found a nice graphics card for a good price that I was happy with.I hoped that it would be of help to someone and indeed it seemed it had.The intent of my post was not to start a ' ATI are better than NVidia ' debate.SO PLEASE DO NOT HIJACK THIS THREAD IF THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY. If you want to argue the merits of ATI and NVidea then start your own thread.

Very sneaky. People see a 9800XT next to this 5900XT and go "Wow, I can get that other XT card for $200 less!". It's obvious where they got the 'XT' from. However, it looks like a good card. They kept the 256-bit memory interface, and the frequencies are still quite high for both the memory and core. I can see ATI dropping the prices of some of the 9800 models (the non-Pro and the SE, most likely) very soon, which, in the end is good for the consumers.
