December 23, 200322 yr Over the years, I've seen people ask for various things, and sometimes being answered by a rather curt "try doing a search" Well, I have to say I find this "searching" easier said than done. I'm looking for a B747 panel with FMC,So I type "B747 panels" in fs2002. It gives me 3 files, all colour changes ( but no actual panel)So I type "Boeing747 panels" It gives me zilch. Is there a secret code? If I want 747 panels, should I type something like "Views from Mars" Only joking, but you see what I mean, but, how the heck do you tell it to look for B747 panels? I just find it far more frustrating than tediously going thro' every file.Russell.
December 23, 200322 yr I just did a check and came up with 4 pages of references in the avsim library. First, go to the library, then click on Extended Search. In the line that asks for a description type in 747. Then, narrow the search to FS2002/panels.Anything in the library that references 747 will show up. Some of it is clearly not what you want. But, there are several B747 panels, for the various permutations of the aircraft. Take your pick...Sherm
December 23, 200322 yr Taking it one step farther---- a Search on Yahoo for "747 Panel Flight Sim" produced 3100 answers- Most of the first 100 or so were links to various FS addon sites that had some form of B747 panel.A bit of refining of the search parameters would get rid of some of the dead wood and make a more manageable list of choices.Dave
December 23, 200322 yr Author Well, there you go. I hear what you say Sherm. I narrowed the search to fs2002/panels. but was a little bit more specific and put "B",then "Boeing" in front of 747 and it said no files. Thats what I mean. When it did'nt know what a B747 panel was, it never entered my head that it would know what 747panel was.Russell.
December 23, 200322 yr It can get tricky....can't it...and taking what Dave said about using Yahoo, I often use google for flt sim information. It's just a matter of getting used to the idiosyncracies of search engines....sherm
December 23, 200322 yr Author Haha, yes, it can get complicated (and thanks for the heads up on Yahoo.) I'll be the first to admit I'm not the smartist of people when it comes to using computers, but the point was that logic dictates (to me) that, when there are at least 11 B747 panels in the fs2002 panel file list, searching for B747panels/fs2002 should'nt come up with "No files fit this discription". Anyway, thanks for your answers, I'll just have to try and start thinking "Non-Logical"Russell.
December 23, 200322 yr actually, the search function is logical. You asked for a shorthand designation B747. Had you asked for Boeing 747 you would have gotten more responseSherm
December 24, 200322 yr I try to start vague and narrow it down if needed. A search for just 747 will find boeing 747 and boeing747 and b747 and b 747 etc. If you search for B747, it will only look for B747 and not all of the other possibilities. Wait 'till you need something for a F18 or F-18 or F 18 or FA18 or FA-18 or ......
December 24, 200322 yr Author Thanks for that Larry,it explains the "Logic" very well. Seems like I was being too specific. Just tried it again. Boeing747--No files. 747--Loads of files. Thanks again, you've made it all sound, well,"Logical" Haha.Russell.
