August 6, 201114 yr Just a quick question for the RW NG drivers that are among us. Is the use of the HGS at pilot discretion? Do most US operators use the HGS for most approaches regardless of weather? I apologize if this has either been discussed or is in some documentation somewhere, I am at the office and was just curious. Thanks! August 6, 201114 yr Good question.. Basically what the HGS does is decrease the minimums for takeoff and landing in IMC conditions.. It's not mandatory to use in all situations, up to the Capt..
August 6, 201114 yr Required for -800, -900 for tailstrike protection on T/O and Land, if available. This is a company the had -200 and -400 previously so I guess they were worried about that extra length. Matt Cee

August 6, 201114 yr So, that company doesn't allow for first officer takeoffs and landings?? Strange FO is PF, CA is PM and CA monitors the PLI. The use is required, just not by the PF. Matt Cee
