A question about engine start

Featured Replies

Hello,Yesterday I bought this bird, I have to say I love it. I already did the first tutorial flight successfully, but it's a little useless to me, because it doesn't say anything about startup. I know, there is a QRH, but it's way to long, and it's got about 409583048 pages about startup. I'm a pretty experienced PMDG flyer, of both the 747 and MD-11, but I have no experience with the 737 at all (except for the default one which is ######). My problem is my engine startup, because I don't exactly know how to do it. After some time, I managed to start the engines seperately, but then when I moved the thrust lever, only engine one responded to thrust changes, and yes both levers of both engines moved, not seperately, so I want to do it properly. So could someone please explain me how to start the engines properly, without using the Ctrl+E way? Thanks in advance,Arjen Vandervelde

Power Airplane.
  • Battery On
  • standby power auto
  • Bus transfer auto.

Ready Start

  • Pumps on
  • Apu on
  • APU GEN On
  • APU Bleed ON
  • Packs OFF

Engine start

  • ENG1 Starter selectors to GND
  • Wait for N1 10-15%...then EG1 Fuel Lever to IDLE
  • stabilized
  • ENG1 GEN ON

Repeat for engine 2 Fred.

OK thanks, I'll try that.

The pages about startup aren't really all that long Arjen, FCOM 1:Page 209 - Electrical Power Up supplementalPage 77 - Normal Procedures (a lot of this is skippable like the Exterior Walkaround) These are the flows real crews use - can't get much more accurate than that.

Ok thank you that works, but what about ENG BLEEDAIR, when should be turned on? And something else, after engine start I get two blue illuminated light, just above the air panel saying "RAM DOORS OPEN", what's up with that? How do I close them?THanks in advance,Arjen Vandervelde.

Engines need bleed air to start. The apu normally provides it for first engine start then that engine provides bleed air for the next engine !! Ram air doors open and close automattically.........no problem there. Fred.

I want to revisit this please Tabs...He has stated the same thing as me, but you are giving instructions on proper startup technique, but believe there is a bug here?Whenever engine bleeds are not used, the displays of the pmdg will go through the motions (without proper sound), as if you are starting up and then freeze once it gets to stabilized. The power is there with the generators and the start switches cut out... And the engines are not actually running. And the throttle blue indicator will not be present!
