Anybody purchase yet? What is your opinion? What is the hit on FPS, performance etc?Details, please!Barry

Also querying:1. Is there any fix for the floating airport on mesa problem in this version? In FS2002 I use RealScene and KRAP is up in the air. I know flattens take care of sunken airports, but the docs say not much could be done for the floaters which in part can be caused by sloping runways. There was a suggestion that a stack of graduating polygons would smoothen out the cliff effects at such locations.2. Anybody know if there is a current forum on this?

Greetings,I posted a similar question here regarding RealScene2004 and the FSGenesis sceneries and got no response. I went and ordered Realscene2004 anyway, it won't ship for another week or so. I read the review for RealScene here on Avsim and the only negative things I read were the floating trees and the "plateau" effect around some airports.I had all areas of FSGenesis scenery for FS2002 and I liked it, except for their Catalina scenery. However, now I go to their web site and there are so many choices, it'll make your head spin. They have about three different meter variations, then the landclass, numerous coverage areas, etc.I like the idea of everything on one or two CD's. I'll post when I get it. I have Megascenery too and liked it enough to pre-order the New York area as it includes more features. The extra ten dollars for the approach plates and maps is well worth it.Sincerely,Hans Groenewold

HI Hans,Unless they've completely reengineered it, you've traded 38.2m terrain made from 30m "best available" source data for 38.2m terrain oversampled from an older, inferior 90m source dataset. The description of the source data used for RealScene 2004 is vague at best, so the quality on the product depends on whether is has been completely reengineered from 30m source data throughout, or simply repackaged on a DVD.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

Hi, Justin:What does the latest FSG offer as a solution to the "airport on mesa" effect if any due to discrepancies between mesh and heights defined in scenery?

Hello All,Yes, RealScene 2004 has been reengineered with all 30 meter source data from the USGS NED dataset, resampled to 38.2 meters(LOD 10), which seems to be the highest LOD that FS2004 recognizes for mesh terrain. We went with DVD packaging because it is over 3 GB using the 30 meter source data. It would have made for 5 individual CD's if we had gone that route, making it much more expensive to produce and ship. The new scenery should help some with the plateaued airports, since the elevation data is more precise, but it does not solve the problem completely since the flight simulator does not use sloping runways, it only uses one elevation for all of the runways at an airport. Also included on the DVD is landclass data for the continental U.S., which greatly enhances the placement of textures. Since the USGS does not differentiate between a lot of the landclasses by region, I will be looking for comments and suggestions on the Landclass data so that I can refine it more for individual areas as time goes on. I hope this helps to explain some of your questions.Eddie DenneyRealScene

Justin,I appreciate the input. Ultimately, I want the best scenery I can get for FS2004 to cover the USA. Knowing that and the fact that your web site has so many choices, what would be your recommendation? Also, I didn't see a "contact us" area on your web site unless I missed it, which is possible. I can't access my customer information now because my email address has changed.Any help would be appreciated.Sincerely,Hans Groenewold

HI Ronzie,There really isn't a good solution. Clunky workarounds at best. The problem is the "flat runway" limitation of FS and more info can be found here:http://portal.fsgenesis.net/modules.php?op...es&id_cat=10#38-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

HI Hans,I would recommend 38.2m terrain made from at least 30m source files, which you already have apparently ordered, since Eddie has now clarified the source of his product. So, our respective products should now be identical except for any pricing and delivery options differences. You already have my 38.2m Rockies, West Coast, and Appalachians, which cover the most significant terrain in the US, and you can log into your FSGenesis Store account and download the new FS2004 installers as free updates.I can be contacted in a variety of ways. Easiest way is probably to use the FSGenesis Forums. And I have corrected your FSGenesis Store email address, so you can obtain your forgotten login information by using this procedure:http://portal.fsgenesis.net/modules.php?op...q=yes&id_cat=15Thanks-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

Hi Justin,I managed to remember my password and got into my account. I don't know why you got that message, I use Outlook Express, so my mail box is not space limited as far as I know. I have received other mail today with no problems. It would be nice to have a feature available when you forget your password and your email address has changed such as "Your old email address" and "Your new email address".I'm downloading the files I had available and I'm going to see how they function in FS2004. Would adding the landclass improve this scenery or will it not make any difference?I'm looking forward to comparing it to RealScene2004. I assume that I can have both installed as long as I disable one so that both are not active at the same time, is that correct? Thanks for your help.Sincerely,Hans

Hi Hans,You can update your info at any time by clicking the Account button along the top of the FSGenesis Store. The only time I'd have to do it manually is if you have forgotten your login information and your lost password email has changed.I think the Landclass would improve things. :-)If you have a few gigabytes of disk space to spare, installing both wouldn't hurt anything, as long as you only have one active at a time. But, all things being equal and no errors in INF files, both products should have an identical end result.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x
