August 7, 201114 yr Hello I have seen many people recommending that FSX be installed in C drive (not program files). Why? What possible problems does this eradicate, does it give better performance? Would it be worth the time to re-apply many tweaks and install several backups. Also is there a limit to how many times the NGX can be re-installed? I have already installed it twice after i thought something went wrong. So would a third be close to my limit. August 7, 201114 yr Commercial Member Tim, Windows Vista and Windows 7 treat files/folders in the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders different than they do normal folders created elsewhere. They're "protected" by the OS in terms of file permissions, user account control etc. Normally this is not an issue because programs are designed to deal with the protections, but FSX is 6+ years old and existed prior to Vista and Win7, so the protections can cause problems where files can't be read or written to and things like that. Already with the NGX we've seen a couple instances where people couldn't get the activation popup until they installed outside of Program Files, stuff like that. I've been recommending people do this for years now, but this is the first product release we've done where the recommendation is included in the documentation. There is no limit to the number of times the NGX can be installed on the same machine. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
August 7, 201114 yr Author Ok thanks. I saw somewhere that you can simply uninstall all addons, move the fsx folders and then use the flight 1 registry tool to make the corrections. Is this true? Will it work in my case as long as i uninstall the NGX. Thanks again. August 7, 201114 yr I made a fresh install of FSX to a separate hard drive. It was freshly formatted and the only thing I was going to install on it was FSX. During install it gave me the message "FSX cannot be installed to the root directory" so I created a Program files folder and put it in there. I am running Windows 7 32 bit. Jerry Sterner
