Crash to desktop

Featured Replies

Hi all,Please can someone post me the name of the Crash to desktop file fix as discussed in the forum.I have searched the file library using "crash" but have been unable to locate the correct file.Thanks,Alex.

Hi Alex,The link was provided by Holger with these instructions:1. Download crashto.zip at http://jobia.bei.t-online.de/crashdes.htm and unzip into temporary folder, with "Use folder names" enabled.2. make a backup copy of your FS9terrain.cfg file3. copy the .bmp files from the PatchTexture folder into your FS9Texture folder4. copy one of the two replacement terrain.cfg files into your root FS9 folder. The version in the "terrain_cfg mit ..." folder retains the default blending of landclass textures along the utility lines, the version in "terrain_cfg ohne ..." replaces the blending with simple textures. Both versions fix the seasonal CTD crashes, the additional changes to the utility corridors are just a pet peeve of Jobia and have no influence on the crashes (in Europe, most utility corridors don't have clearings cut, unless they run through forested areas). The patch is easily reversible by deleting the new terrain.cfg and replacing it with the original. You don't have to delete the .bmp files that came with this patch because they get called only by the altered terrain.cfg.Regards,Gabriel Mora.PS. Holger's thread is http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=7&topic_page=1

Alex, the name of the file is crashto.zip, and unfortunally it didn't do anything for my CTD's.This is getting ridiculous; simmers are making their own patches to solve problems that Microsoft should be taking care of.Good luck, anyways.Luca

To Gabriel & Luca,Thanks for the replies,I'm going to give this "patch" a try - I will let you know if it succeeds!Luca - have you tried setting the date to pre 21st November or post Jan 1st - I have read on one of these forums that this may correct the CTD.Thanks again,Alex.

Hi all,The file fix "crashto" has not solved the issue of FS9 crashing to desktop. This has only just started happening recently (I have had FS9 since the summer) - my system has been very stable - my first CTD was last week flying from Orlando to Newark and then yesterday flying from Amsterdam to Barcelona. On my flight yesterday from Amsterdam to Barcelona I saved my flight 150 miles from destination and when flying over the mountainous area 50 mile North of Barcelona I keep CTD - I have tried the crash to file fix - also I have changed the FS date to post Jan 01 but everytime I make my descent into Barcelona flying over the mountains my system crashes to desktop.Anyone got any ideas or solutions - this is doing my head in!Regards,Alex.

Alex,I'm sorry to hear that, but I was afraid this would happen.Flying next to mountains seems to be ONE of the aspects these dreaded CTD's have in common. As far as I'm concerned, there is no known fix that solves the problem. As I've posted already in other related topics, I've turned my system upside down for two weeks now, with NO SUCCESS. A great deal of time good for flying was spent tweaking, un-installing and re-installing.I wish the sim had a logbook for hours spent tweaking, so I could show you what a tremendous waste of time this product has meant to me so far.I don't say we have to give up, but I'm afraid we are just not able to solve this one ourselves.Keep looking at the posts.A lot of people are involved in this.Something MAY come out.Luca

Hi Luca,Thanks for responding to my problem! This is very frustrating - up until last week I have to say I have had no real issues with FS9!I wonder if this is happening to everyone or just a few people.I have had FS since the 98 edition and this is the first time I have come up with a problem like this - it seems I will have to re-install FS2002 - damn I only deleted it from my system a few days ago!!It seems like a problem just in the winter - maybe we can start using FS9 again in spring?Anyway, once again thankyou for responding, at least I am not alone in not being able to fly, it does annoy me when some people come along and praise Microsoft saying "its only a Sim - what do you expect for $50".Regards,Alex.

"Flying next to mountains seems to be ONE of the aspects these dreaded CTD's have in common"Just curious if this is something you see year round, or only in winter. Flying next to and around mountains hasn't caused CTD's at all at least in the springtime (I don't care much for flying with the winter textures). I fly around Juneau alot--no issues there. I do keep my mesh settings maxed as well as my texture settings. I also have Landclass loaded in some of the mountainous areas--landclass I created with Landclass Assistant, so it's not broad in coverage. Is there a repeatable way to create one of these CTD's? I'd like to look at it more closely and see if there's a way I may be able to isolate it to certain textures...-JohnEdit:Has anyone tried taking FS2002's worldlc.bgl and replacing FS2004's with it? Just curious if the problem resides there, since Microsoft changed the worldlc.bgl with FS2004's release...

Hi John. Thanks for your help.I'll give it a try, and see if changing worldlc.bgl has any effect. Although I don't promise I'll do that today (it's 7:00PM where I live).I have CTD's happening no matter what I have installed or not; add-on scenery/default scenery, with or without AFCAD files, with or without default landclass.I've had CTd's happening with terrifying frequency and punctuality when taking off from Zurich (Switzerland) and Torino-Caselle (Italy). Both areas are surrounded by mountains.I wasn't getting these CTD's when flying in November. If you need any further information, please let me know.Luca

I have only noticed the recent CTD's started after installing the new Ultimate Traffic, and the timing of other's problems seems to coincide... are you using UT?Best,Joel

Nope!People are experiencing CTD's on a clean install of the sim.Luca

Hi John / Luca,I also have a clean install of the sim, no Ultimate traffic although I do have some AFCAD files.I can re-create a CTD almost instantly as on an approach to Barcelona I did a "save flight" just before the first CTD occured - I don't know if I could email you the saved flight??As far as I know this only happens with the winter textures as I have had FS9 since summer and this has only just started to happen - even just 2 - 3 weeks ago I was flying with the correct date in FS in mountainous areas around Anchorage and Seattle.Regards,Alex.

Hi ALL, I would like to have your situation flight *.FTL and *.wx to see when your CTD appears and see if I can duplicate the problems, send it me to: [email protected] system:Asus P4P800 8X (latest bios and latest chipset driver installed)P4 2.53 GHZ512 RamGforce 4 TI 4200 128mb 8XOfficial Nvidia Driver 53.03-No junk software Installed in background or running-I have all PAI and Afcad installed from their site. Many mesh installed and various aircraft.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

Kind Regards

All,I have just seen a message posted by Don regarding the same subject - he recommends that if you have any AFCAD files for airports within 50 - 80 miles of where you CTD to try deleting them from your scenery folder.I have just tried this and it has worked for me.I was flying into Barcelona using a file from the AVSIM library - lebl_128213.zip - whilst I know the author wouldn't want any harm coming to anyone's system should I inform the file library managers? The only other CTD I had was last week flying from Orlando to Newark - I had just installed an AFCAD file for Newark!! - I will try out this flight again tomorrow deleting the AFCAD file and see if it happens again.Regards,Alex.

Hmmm... this would also make sense with respect to my Ultimate Traffic observation- it was actually around the time all the new AFCADs were made available that I and others started noticing CTDs... maybe there's an issue related to AFCADS as opposed to UT.Joel
