August 11, 201114 yr Hi really enjoying this sim and found the time around my kids job and wife to do the introduction tutorial to EHAM. I am interested in flying standard STARS and SIDS as they do in real life. What i find confusing when using charts ets is to link up a STAR with an Approach and ILS runway like it is done from the tutorial. Just for example say i want to fly to Madrid is there a place i can find the usual STAR and Approaches which are used for that airport? I hope im making sense here. I'm not saying i don't understand charts (i am also not saying im expert) but i just want to be able to get a better picture of what approaches are usually used with a particular runway or STAR and is there a source online to find that stuff out? Sorry about the ramblings i hope i have made my point? Phil Brewer
August 11, 201114 yr For all European charts I use the EAD Basic web page for all up to date charts, you need to register but it is free.http://www.ead.euroc...lic/pu/login.doIt really is the best for European charts.Once on the home page just go toEnter applicationsthenPAMS LightThen search away
August 11, 201114 yr Another would be Navigraph " nDac " .... All Charts are for sale there (not that much ! ) . Nice Tool ! Sebastian Meyer
August 11, 201114 yr Yeah I had Navigraph nDac too, very nice. The hard drive I had all my charts on went bad though, I didn't have the heart to sort them all out again as the ead is free and up to date too. Dan.
August 11, 201114 yr Author Ah great stuff. So just for example if i was to take off from EHAM and fly to Liverpool EGGP how would you go about setting up the approach with the correct STAR etc? so that it represents what pilots do in real life. I know there are a lot of variables to take into account but say just a normal day with good weather?
August 11, 201114 yr BERGI 1G BERGI UL602 SUPUR UL60 OTBED UY70 POL TIPOD 1D after that I dont know. Probably be under ATC heading (Vectors) to FAF. Don't know if this is a real route, I got it from vroute and looked up the SIDs and STARS on the ead basic webpage. Dan.
August 11, 201114 yr Author Thanks oneill875 i also use vroute and just tried the same thing. This is what i always find difficult to make a good vnav path with realistic stars etc. Many thanks anyway it is much appreciated.
August 11, 201114 yr Something we don't always use that real pilots always do is ATC, they tell you where to go, the charts are for planning purposes only (lost comms). I have London control (ATC Sim) and it really opened my eyes to this, I used to fly online using vatsim etc... but I don't really have the time these days, also my RT is crap.
August 11, 201114 yr Author I also have London Control :) haven't used it for awhile because of the hassle to get it to work on Win7 but that i think is one of the best ATC sims i have used i thoroughly enjoy it. I know what you mean. Most flights get to a certain waypoint and are vectored in from that point. I suppose the ideal i am looking for is a good source of knowledge that maps out popular STARS and Approaches on one sheet. I know i can look at the charts but sometimes it's just to much info. 8 or 9 stars for one airport and i haven't got a clue what the correct one to use is.
August 11, 201114 yr You can use flightaware.com, click on pilot resources, then recently used ifr routes, then you enter departure+arrival and you can see the routes (side-enroute-star). Alfredo Terrero
August 11, 201114 yr Are you aware of the Standard Route Document (SRD) http://www.nats-uk.e.../srd/SRDDOC.pdf This will help decide which SID and route to exit point to use for leaving the UK. Also which route from the entry point to the UK and what STAR to use. For example, I'm on a routing from LEPA to EGLL my entry point will be ALESO. I look up ALESO in the SRD and also my Destination, I see that a BIG3B is the only available option to me. Dan.
