August 13, 201114 yr Guys, I need to buy my kid a new laptop for school (Grade 10). Main uses will be MS Word, Excel plus just the general online nonsense like Facebook, MS Messenger, Skype, etc. I want to buy a very cheap laptop with screen of 15" or more that will do the job and will not be too slow. I have seen some for $350 with AMD chips (Dual Core C-50, E-350) but honestly I don't know a thing about these chips and if they are any good or not. Do you guys have suggestions ? (and thanks because every dollar you save me here is one that I have for some FS addon !!!) thanks, Mark. Mark CYYZ
August 13, 201114 yr Anyone will do for those tasks. What slows down computers the most is poor manteinance and reckless use (filling up the HDD with tons of crap, fragmentation, viruses...).
August 13, 201114 yr Have a look at the Dell Inspirons. They're pretty well done, and warranty is really good. August 13, 201114 yr Author Well I have my eye on this one but they don't tell you if the W7 Home Premium is 64bit or 32bit. Plus its only 3GB of RAM and not sure if that is any good or not. http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/toshiba-toshiba-satellite-15-6-amd-e-350-laptop-black-refurbished-psc0yc-00d003/10175864.aspx?path=e7e841973c3e997548a254fd51f99a92en02 Mark. August 14, 201114 yr My pick for laptops would be an ASUS. I can't think you can really go wrong with them. Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. The optimist invents the airplane and the pessimist the parachute. ~Gil Stern
