Custom weather

Featured Replies

I have ASE but don't have it installed. The thing is that I don't like real time weather because OR it isn't the kind of weather I'd like to see OR I am flying on the other side of the world and the weather is 'current night weather' while I am flying at daytime. I've been flying with simple FSX weather, but it just looks awful. Well, when you load a theme it can look nice, but after flying for some time, it seems the theme is forgotten about and you see a few clouds here and there in one very obvious layer... Can I use ASE to create the kind of weather I like? I don't mind if the weather doesn't change over time. What's the easiest way to get more realistic looking skies? (I also need ASE, I think, to get rid of those odd fog layers which you sometimes see and sometimes don't...?)

Get REX with Overdrive for the awesome sky and many other great looking textures. And as far as I know you can create custom weather conditions in ASE.

Jeroen, you can configure ASE to display any kind of weather you like. It's very configurable. You can even use it to take a snapshot of a particular weather and use that over and over if you want. You can use it to recal some weather from the past and apply that as well.

Ok... Time to read the manual, I guess...! ;)

All the options are on the Wx Config screen in ASE!

I installed ASE this evening and loaded real time weather on the Wx Config page and applied it globally: it looked great! However, creating my own weather on that page is just as hard (if not harder) as in FSX itself... If I am not mistaken I can save that 'current' weather as a file and load it on that page, so when I like the weather at a certain moment, I should remember to go back to ASE and save it. Right? I will look into it some more tomorrow. But I have to say the weather looked better immediately! ;)

Yes, you can save any weather and re-load it at another time, and you don't even need to go the the Wx Config screen to do so!

Ok, cool! But er... I see a LOT of Save and Load icons all over the ASE-place... Which one should I use to save the current weather (if I like it) and to load it later on...? And when I load it later on, should I load it and then start FSX or should I start FSX and then load it and Apply somehow...? (I have to say I do get lost rather quickly in ASE with all those options and buttons...! tongue.png ) Another thing (now you're here anyway ;) ): I live in the Netherlands and fly a LOT in Orbx PNW region. I don't fly at realtime because I like to fly with the sun shining and it's night over there when I fly. Now when I use real time weather with ASE, this would or could mean I am flying virtually at daytime but with nighttime weather (since the weather is real time). Is there an easy way to make ASE automatically use weather that's appropriate for the time I am flying in...? The same goes for flying during summer while it's actually winter (which I do a lot). Can ASE automatically load weather that suits a summer's day even though I am flying in december? Or do I have to use the History option for that? Would be nice if ASE could look at the date in FSX and load the weather automatically. But maybe that's asking too much. Anyway, I am glad I re-discovered ASE again! The skies look awesome now! P.S. I suppose all this should have been posted on the official HiFi Simulation Software forum... sorry...!

Save Wx icon at the top of ASE. Load Wx icon at the top of ASE. Always start and load weather first before starting FS. If ASE is set to use real time then whatever day/date/season/time you have in FS does not matter. ASE will supply the current weather for that location. If you don't want current weather then yes, you use the History option.
