Airline Pilot needed in West Yorkshire

Featured Replies

Afternoon all, I'm a Primary School teacher in Leeds, West Yorkshire and am looking for an airline pilot to come and talk to my children next term. I've tried my contacts and only seem to be able to find PPL pilots. I'm looking for the pilot to come and talk to year 5 and 6 (9-11 year olds) about the job with pictures (not essental) to give them an insight. If anyone knows of anyone or can suggest ways I could get in touch with someone suitable that would be great. Thanks, Barry

Sounds like a good idea, the only problem is I teach in the UK. Barry

Try contacting all the local airlines and they are usually more than happy to send someone out.

Barry, a few UK-based possibililties for you: 1. BALPA, the UK commercial pilots' union:http://www.balpa.org/Home.aspx2. The Air League, a not-for-profit organisation which has as part of its mission,"Promoting air-mindedness in the young by encouraging and assisting them to follow careers in aviation and the aerospace industry." See http://www.airleague.co.uk/ Or as Cessnaflyer says, you can try the airlines. Jet2 (http://www.jet2.com/) are based at Leeds-Bradford airport and I'd guess many of their aircrew would live in Yorkshire too. Maybe start with them - but you'd hope any UK airline would see the benefits of a bit of corporate social responsibility and free PR from helping you out.

Thanks for all of your suggestions, I emailed the Jet2 press office directly and they are more than happy to get involved! Now I need to remember that the Pilot is there to speak to the kids and not just ask questions from me! Hehe! Barry
