August 15, 201114 yr Hi guys,I´ve just upgraded to the 280 drivers. So far no problems encountered. Checked whether the setting for FS9 are the same as prior to the installation and everything is all right. But I found as a option for AA the setting 8xSQ. Is this better as my currently used 8xQ? August 16, 201114 yr 8xQ is pure multisampling - did you mean 8xS? 8xS is 1x2 Supersampling (vertical lines only) with 4 x Multisampling 8xSQ is 2x2 supersampling (horizontal and vertical) with 2x Multisampling. Supersampling is better IQ but with decreased performance. Im currently using 8xS with 2 x sparse grid supersampling on transparency settings to eliminate shimmers. August 16, 201114 yr Author So 8xSQ will be better IQ but less performance?! I´ll check that out. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
August 16, 201114 yr So 8xSQ will be better IQ but less performance?! I´ll check that out. Yes....but be aware the supersampling can make the image seem soft and slightly 'blurry' to some compared to normal multisampling. You may (probably will) find that tranparency items such as trees, lamp posts, pylons etc will still 'shimmer'. To eliminate this shimmer effect (if it annoys you) you will need to add some form of transparency AA (as well. This is where it gets tricky as adding transparency AA can effect FPS a lot, especially in conjunction with any full screen supersampling method. For the best IQ and performance balance I have decided to stick with 8xS and for Transparency AA, 2x Sparse Grid Supersampling. If you prefer the multisampling approach, Nvidia has a nice mode called CSAA. With this mode you can use 8x or 16x CSAA with only the performace hit of 4x MSAA. Used in conjunction with 2x or 4x sparse grid SS this will give nice IQ with better performance than what I suggested earlier. I would have stuck with this setting if it were not for the fact the some cockpit gauges and panels appear to 'swim' a little more. That is just my personal preference though and some may be able to live with it. Personally, I am prepared to accept a little perf reduction for improved IQ. August 18, 201114 yr Quick update - with the increased resolution my 30" monitor provides I have discovered that 4xS with 2xSGSS is perfectly acceptable also. Takes a bit of strain of the GPU considering I am at 2560x1600 Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
August 31, 201114 yr Author Well, I´ve now tested 8xSQ and have reverted back to 8xQ. With 8xSQ I got only single digits in the 727 down at Anchorage Whereas I got 35 with 8xQ. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
