AFCAD and runway selection?

Featured Replies

I finally installed a bunch of AFCAD2 files in FS9, however, I can't select any other runways for landing except what ATC gives me. Is there a simple fix for this (never edited AFCADs)? I need some alternate runways to avoid multiple go-arounds!Thanks,Chris

First, download the latest AFCAD2 released a few days ago. Then use it to check the various runway properties of the airports you are having trouble with to insure the AFCAD airport designer has not closed them.I am not current on the issues, but a few weeks ago there were threads on the AFCAD forum over at the projectai site, stating that certain runway properties regarding runway status only took effect with parallel runway use and more important that the same privileges existed at both ends of the same runway.AFCAD2 is not too hard to learn to edit existing navaid and runway properties so look and change if necessary. If all looks well, then it is an FS ATC issue which I do not use. I use Radar Contact 3.1 which lets me request alternative runways. Hopefully in the next few months, they will be releasing a new version, not revision, that will increase RC integration with AI including watching AI pattern trends at your destination and controlling AI aircraft. 3.1 now does recognize AI aircraft and issue cautions or go-arounds to you, but if you are interested you may want to wait.

Okay, thanks I'll check it out. I have a feeling they closed runways, but I prefer to pick my own when the active is too busy. I can only handle so many go-arounds. I do have RC, but haven't installed it yet since it need some updating for AI and such. Thanks,Chris

After you install it and get your key, be sure to download the latest build 3.10.2264, latest FSUIPC (the new build includes registration access), and updated sound files as directed on the support forum here on AVSIM. The improvements are worth the effort such as AI recognition and avoidance advisories, go-arounds for non-clear runway instances on finals, etc., as well as some destination MSA clearance choices.

I have the registered FSUIPC, however, I had problems with a couple of later builds and am still using 3.11The big question I have is, how is RC3 on frame rates and overall performance in 2004? Also, is their new version going to be a free update? I'll go check their forum on here to see if they mentioned the update being free or not.By the way, I found AFCAD2 (which wasn't easy), but those airports in question didn't say the runways were closed. Either way, I do need to install RC3, just worried about performance, since UT takes so much now.ThanksChris

Incremental updates (within the 3.x family) are without charge.Going from 3.x to the 4.0 will be discounted somewhat to existing users (per forum posting). I don't think a price schedule has been posted nor has a release date target. You might wish to wait if you can tolerate the existing FS ATC limitations. There is some stuttering with FS9 but it has not been specific to RC as far as I can tell but the overall load. It seems any weather updates (I use AS2004 which is about to come up with a maintenance release) may cause disruption.I do not use UT but run dense AI of aircraft and simulated flight plans developed from five commercial airlines plus GA populating KMSP and adjacents emulating the Midwest operation of Northwest Airlines and NWA Airlink (Mesaba). AI is set at 70% and using Traffic Look from the latest FSUIPC shows very dense ground and air traffic within the forty mile range of my position. This, as you know, causes quite a load both in FS2K2 and FS9, the latter with all the 3D goodies enabled. I still think some hiccups are third party threads but we'll have to see if it is just the total apps running or just RC. I will next weekend rerun RC without AS2004 active.I'm still by preference at W98SE w 766 MB ram and 2.53 GHz CPU, TI4200 based video.I do not want to start a performance issue thread here as there are many other postings and fixes related to this, but just wanted to state my platform relating to the comments on RC 3.1.

Where exactly is the support forum for FSUIPC on the AVSIM website? I'd love to check out these improvements if at all possible. Perhaps I'm blind, but I don't see the forum anywhere.EricArea51Intel
