Microsoft Visual C++

This is probably does not have anything to do with the freezes or majority of crashes. I just wanted to share my experience just in case somebody else accidentally did this too. If you ever see duplicates of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 or Multiple copies of Visual C++ 2008 installed in Programs and Features don't mess with em, leave em alone! :-) I am kinda a neat and tidy freak so when I saw 2 copies of Visual C++ 2005 that looked identical I deleted one of them. Oooops...This was about a year ago after that anytime I flew over and FSDreamteam Airport or tried to land at it or even started at the gate I would crash instantly. Eventually I found out I had to get back that C++ 2005 Version that I deleted. But here is something you probably don't know. Even when I went to the Microsoft Site and downloaded C++ 2005 and reinstalled it, my problem was not fixed. Reason being is the one on the Microsoft site is the newer one of the 2005s. There are 2 versions. When you install FSX it installs the older copy of the C++ 2005 and if you ever uninstall that one from your computer the only way to get it back is to do a new install of FSX. I have Two 2005 C++ Entries and Eight 2008 c++ Entries in mine. (x86 and x64) So if you have ever for whatever reason uninstalled one of those 2005 c++ entries but have not reinstalled FSX then that could be one of your crash problems. Easy way to tell is go in there and look and if you have Two entries for Visual C++ 2005 then you are good. One of them is from FSX and the other is the newer one that FSDreamteam and some other airport Sceneries use. Keep in mind I am on VISTA 64-Bit so I will have a lot more entries for MY C++ 2008 entries because I have both 32 bit and 64 bit entries. (x86 and x64)

They were NOT identical.. different versions. HOWEVER, as indicated in another Topic, you should NOT have DUPLICATES of the SAME VERSION installed.

Hmm...I guess it would be enough to make an reinstall of the PMDG747 and one would be good.All C++ version have diffr. numbers, meaning they are there for a reason./ Leffe

That might help for the PMDG737NGX, that does require certain C++ Libraries and version of Simconnect to be available. If you are intested in understanding this subject, search Google on C++ library manifest ie http://msdn.microsof...2(v=vs.80).aspx

Have done that long ago. I didn´t say either that one should delete any of them! "They are there for a reason...with diffr #" But was I was pointed out, if you delete one and the sim crash...then properly it is that specific you need for the ac, no need thento reinstall FSX, just reinstall your ac and you also will get back that specific C++. Think you should check your facts again. FSDreamTeam told me there should be Two C++ 2005s installed. They look the same but they are not the same. One is required by FSX and the Other is required by FSDT. You can always stop by the FSDT Forum they will tell you the same thing, or you can delete one and test your theory but I don't recommend it.

PMDG planes install C++ 2008 version so even if you install the Plane your not gonna get that 2005 version back no matter what you do until you reinstall FSX. Like I said there are two versions and both are required.One is installed by FSX and the other is installed with FSDT sceneries.

If they are NOT the same, they are NOT exact Duplicates (sigh) But you do whatever you want - your problems need not be my problems, and I have no intention of getting into a technical discussion on this forum, on FSDT issues.

Peculiar, when I reinstalld back the 747 to my new setup this august I´m almost certain it was the 2005 C++ one./ Leffe

PMDG planes install the 2008 one and check to see if you have the 2005 one. Anyway not sure why everyone has to contradict my posts but here is the proof of what I was talking about direct from the FSDT site.

Quote from: Paul Deemer on November 26, 2010, 06:52:04 PM Re: MSVCR80.DLL error on all FSDT Scenery Okay I have figured out the solution to this problem. After giving up on it I decided to go for a new install of FSX, and being even more picky about neat and clean I also did a complete reinstall of Vista as well. What I noticed was that after installing FSX and my Addons plus FSDreamteam Aiports that there are 2 identical entries for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistrubutable.Here is where my problem started. I believe I remember awhile back seeing the double entry for C++ 2005 and being the neat freak I am I deleted one in Add Remove Programs. AHA! Big Mistake! That started the Errors and no matter how many times you completely uninstall Visual C++ and redownload it from the Microsoft Site or reinstall the FSDT Software your still going to have that error. Quote from: VirtualiThat's to be expected. There are TWO version of 2005 runtimes, the original one, which is the that comes with FSX, and the SP1 version (that corrected something like 200+ bugs), which is the one we install and require. In fact, this is also reported by MS on their FSX support page: http://www.microsoft...rvicePack1.aspx QuoteNotice: Third-party content requires VS 2005 SP1 to successfully load. Third-party content developed for FSX using VS 2005 SP1 requires the new VS 2005 SP1 redistributable file So, it's absolutely normal you'll end up having 2 versions of VS 2005 runtimes, after installing FSX and any one of our sceneries. By removing one, you probably removed the original version, which is required by FSX, so it started crashing.

The point here is even though both 2005s are different (One is SP1) they show up looking as Duplicates. It's bad advice to tell somebody if you have what looks like duplicate entries to delete one. In the case of 2005 if you do it like I did and it is the one for FSX your going to end up having to do a complete reinstall of FSX. Here is how the entries look on my system. At the very least to avoid confusion Microsoft shoulda tacked on an SP1 so that people could tell they were different. But they did not. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 RedistributableMicrosoft Visual C++ 2005 RedistributableSo best thing to do is not mess with any C++ 2005 entries.

Sounds good to me...

There is also a version # for everyone and if that differs....it´s not the same and shouldn´t be deleted. / Leffe
