CTD - What helped in my case

Featured Replies

Hello simmers !I had several ctds as well, i'll describe you below what helped in my case - no more ctds.I am not any kind of expert, i just tryed it and works !I have tested for the specific add on sceneries i have installed on my machine and it works for me,so i don't know if it is a general ctd solution, give it a try, may help you too.Open the fs9 folder (the initial one - where the sim is installed) and you'll see a file called scenery.cfg - open it using notepad.Inside this file there are all the scenery areas and their layers as well.Like bellow:................[Area.001]Title=Default TerrainTexture_ID=1Layer=1Active=TRUERequired=TRUELocal=SceneryWorldRemote=[Area.002]Title=Default SceneryLocal=SceneryBASELayer=2Active=TRUERequired=TRUERemote=[Area.003]Title=AfricaLayer=3Active=TRUERequired=FALSELocal=SceneryAfriRemote=..................As you see Each Area and layer have a number. Also, the Areas/Layers numbers shouldbe in order (eg, 1,2,3,4,5,.......31,32,33, etch.)In my case all these were mixed up. For example, I had Area.007 and its layer nr was 5, or Area.007and then Area.009 instead of Area.008, and so on.So, what i did. I renumbered all Areas starting from the one that the numbering was wrong (Area 6 in my case). Then i numbered the layers in a way that they have the same number with the Area they belong. That was it.Pls, before try anything, take a back up of scenery.cfg file first, either copy/paste it on a different partition or to another store device.nikolas

Hi, Did you have 3rd party addons installed: landclass, afcad, mesh and scenery?Default fs2004:By editing the terrain.cfg and replacing both 'MaskClassMap=1' and 'MaskClassMap=3' to 'MaskClassMap=0, should fix all CTD. The CTD came from the road and rivers blending texture which is not a major impact on graphics. ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs

Hi Nikolas,Just to clarify what you were seeing and perhaps explain why the numbers why they were, it works like this: When you add a new area to your FS scenery library, it's assigned both an area number and a layer number. The areas should run in sequence and increment up as the scenery is added. Once you add an area and it's assigned a number that won't change. The layer number is also assigned but is based on the order of precedence the scenery has when it's being loaded by the sim. Higher layers have higher precendence so they're loaded later. This would mainly impact areas which overlap. So, for example, if you have one scenery with a layer of 005 and it contained an exclude file that got rid of certain buildings in the scenery and then another scenery that covered the same area with buildings but had a higher layer (say, 006), the sim would load layer 005 and exclude the scenery as instructed. Then it would load layer 006 which would put buildings back in that area. Since the 006 layer was processed after the 005 layer, the exclude that was included in the 005 layer would have no effect on 006. Normally if you added scenery to your scenery library but never moved any up or down in order of precedence your area numbers and layer numbers should match. However, the first time you move scenery up or down in the list the numbers go out of sync because the area stayed the same and the layer changed. That in itself shouldn't cause any problems, but perhaps you had other things going on in your scenery library that were causing problems. I just thought it would be good to clarify this so people who weren't having any problems wouldn't be unduly alarmed by their numbers not being in sync.thanks,

Hi BillGreat explination and warning. Jaap

Hello friends.Thank you for yr replies.Yes, i have addons installed (any kind), as i wrote in my first msg.FSW addons also - i really enojyed them, congratulations for yr work people !I have not done any terrain.cfg changes becouse as i said everything works fine now.I know also how the Areas/Layers system works and what is going on when installing/uninstalling newsceneries. That's why i tryed it ! And it works. Now, people who have no problem running fs9 propably whouldn't read this msg at the first place.End even if they did read it, why should they try to change it ever since their sim works fine ?ever since what i wrote is my personal experience on a problem and not any kind of tip on how to make fs9 runs better or faster when already runs well.Ever since i advise to take a back up.So, do not confuse things up and talk about any kind of warnings! People, be cool !As, i have said before, all in all is my personal experience.Propably, what works for me maybe not work for others, and oposite. But maybe it does.Has anyone try it ?Have a nice day, nikolas
