January 10, 200422 yr I have 600+ entries on my FS2002 scenery config.Lately everytime I start up the sim I get theapplet with the: "Building database for new sceneryfiles", it runs up to 61% then hangs and then eventuallyI can access all the menus etc.The question is why is this happening even when I havenot added any sceneries?Any advice gratefully received.Joaquin
January 11, 200422 yr Usually when this happens, it is a corrupted scenery file or you have scenery listed twice in the library. Try using AFCAD140.zip and search for corrupted scenery under the File Menu.Otherwise, you may have reached a numerical limit to the scenery.cfg.W. Sieffert Bill Sieffert
January 11, 200422 yr I believe you can have up to 999 scenery areas, but since I can't remember where I heard that (even with two cups of coffee in me), don't hold me to it!!
January 11, 200422 yr I'm surprised you got that many entries Joaquin :-), I only have 300+ and get problems.I asked a question about this some time ago and there is a limit to the number of scenery entries you can have in FS2002. I can't now remember the exact number but it below 400, I think it was around 390.IMO you have two options1) Try to combine similar add-on scenery areas. e.g. Put all landclass scenery into one folder and all terrain scenery into one folder.2) Disable scenery you are not currently flying over in the scenery library, that seems to work for me.HTH
January 14, 200422 yr First of all sorry for the delay in replying to thank you allfor your help.I have scanned all bgls and none were found to contain errors.Have checked the scenery config for double entries and none found. The annoying scenery database creation which I mentioned in my post continues, however, even though at present I have 620 entrieson the scenery config, I have not found any problems whatsoever.FS2002 stops showing any entries on the scenery library over300 odd in number, however I read sometime ago that there wasno known limit on the number of sceneries one could use. When I fly to say scenery number 520 (LSZH) everything appearscorrectly even though the scenery does not appear on the FS scenerylibrary entries.I guess I can live with this annoyance until I rebuild FS2002(if ever).VulcanI have from the very beginning set-up my scenery directoriesin the form of ContinentCountrySpecific scenery. I have alwaysplaced any mesh sceneries in their own directory under the relevantcountry. Whenever I have found any scenery display problems, etc.,it has always been easier to sort out because such directorystructure makes it easy to isolate the problem. My FS is installed in the C: drive most sceneries are installedon my second hard disk on D drive.I never mix sceneries in one directory, the only exception are Landclass sceneries, which I always place in the main Scenery folder.Payware sceneries I tend to install to their default directories.Regards
