Ok got a can on order.I assume I spray this on a clean chamois or towel and wipe down the shaft.Should I open the unit up to get at the whole shaft or is pulling the yoke back as far as it goes and then applying good enough? Thanks!

The can comes with a thin straw that lets you apply the silicone+teflon directly onto the shaft. No need to open the unit, just pull the yoke as far out as it goes to lube the front part of the shaft, then push it in for to lube the rear part of the shaft. Repeat every six months.
