Airport Beacons, a question

Featured Replies

Anyone know a way to make the beacon flash at a higher rate? The flash now is way to slow. Im also interested in the bitmap for the beacons, Id like to get rid of that effect where you see the light cone, its not very well done.Hornit

Too slow? Sure seems to be at the same speed I saw KMIC's at when I was flying for real at night???I'd say MS got that one dead on.

In the US beacon timing is specified by the FAA. I presume this is true outside the US as well. Airport beacons should flash between 24 and 30 times per minute. This is called out in the AIM as well as FAA Advisory Circular 150/5345-12C. If you *really* need help getting to sleep you can view the actualy spec at http://www1.faa.gov/arp/pdf/5345-12C.pdf.

Well from my over 12,000 hours of flight time I can confidently say the rate is definitely too slow on my rig. Everything else seems k and im running smoothly at 30 fps.Hornit

Is there a way to make all the military beacons flash two whites and then green?

Do yours not? I just checked and I get two whites and a green.

I guess you have to be on the ramp to tell. I couldnt tell from the air.

Admittedly it's pretty subtle.

I haven't noticed, but does FS use a yellow and white for water airports, and green yellow and white for heliports?

I actually don't think FS has anything at all for seaplane bases--no buildings, docks, or beacons. I could be wrong of course. So, no, I've not seen any water airport beacons.
