Photoscenery and graphics driver

Featured Replies

Mmm... a quiet evening at last. I've recently recieved a very generous and good-looking donation of hi-res photoscenery for the Vancouver area which I put into a clean, unmodded installation of FU3. Trouble is that I don't seem to be able to use it with my graphics card. With the FU3 menu option '3d Acceleration Driver' switched to Primary Di(splay driver) FU3 freezes on loading a flight, mostly around the map but sometimes just before that with a disconcerting blank screen. Behind the FU3 screen/window I found the following message: With the '3d Acceleration Driver' switched to None everything loads smoothly and I get a great framerate... it's just that everything then is revoltingly blocky. I'll add that Fled doesn't seem to care about the driver; I suppose it simply doesn't use some aspects of texture smoothing. The card is an Nvidia GeForce 7950 GT with 512 MB RAM for an AGP slot and the PC's running XP3 Pro with 2GB of RAM. I have never had graphics trouble with this card, OS or with any other installation of FU3, clean or modded, and never with any other app or game. It would be nice to get it working properly as bad graphics is a big disincentive to getting on with the job in hand (CYVR). Any ideas? Cheers,D

Does the Vancouver scenery require you to mod the region cfg for Seattle? Also, maybe Vancouver requires the expanded Seattle region tiles mod? jimb

I concur, you'll probably need to obtain the expanded Seattle region. Please look for Agtim in the library smile.png

Thanks boys. Happy autumn. It should have been obvious, even to me... I'll sit down with the expansions on Sunday. Tomorrow promises to be fine so I'll be nosing around fresh woods and pastures new.

I had a partial success at the weekend. I discovered that I need a handful of other tools in order to extend the Seattle region so that's a couple of days away again... OT is now successfully extended though that wasn't such a difficult job. Now flights load and everything goes swimmingly. Except... I've found I can only use the extended OT without use_loose_gtls. I'm not sure what causes CTD after a minute or so of flight when the option is turned on- whether it's the accompanying tiles or some aspect of using loose gtls for the extended area. I shall have to try my own generate_outer_megatiles, initially without any rules, to see if that works. Making rules for the area will be a bit of a nuisance (that's a hint) but necessary, I suppose, because making airports that I can't integrate with my preferred installation would be a bit disappointng. Andre, I don't suppose you have a set of rules for the area you'd be willing to post here? And thanks for FledViewer v3; that cured my SeaTac mod-file problem. Ahh, it would be nice to see something go smoothly for a change. Yup, you guessed. I'm feeling grumpy today. It's Monday. Later,D

Hi Dave The GTLs are inside the tag files as long you do not use loose GTLs they are fetched from there. The distribution is not providing the GTL files so you have to create it with generate_outer_megatiles.After the generation you can use loose GTLs and modify them with Jonathan's editor. With my OT viewer you can import single GTL into the tag file. All GTLs must be present to use loose GTLs.a mix of GTL files and tag file is not possible. Using loose GTLs you will have a double defined OT area, tag files must be present for the elevation of OT and the GTLs are just ignored. I don't have own rules and have use the rules published in the library or by Jonathan Stonehouse. Andre

Hi Andre, I don't entirely understand. The OTnorth expansion contains 48 extra gtls and something about these is causing the CTD. 1. I fly Vancouver with only the 5 tag files and no use_loose_gtls, everything is ok. 2. I generate_outer_megatiles 3. then I fly Vancouver with use_loose_gtls. 4. Everything is ok over the plain-forest-with-no-sea. 5. I install the 48 × L0****.gtl files from OTNorth.zip, replacing 48 of those I just generated... 6. and have a CTD after a few seconds. 7. For the new area, the gtls I generated are blank because I have no rules, only default forest with ponds and a straight coastline, 8. and the substitutes cause CTD. 9. So, what am I failing to do? Do I need to specify the new area's latitude & longitude when generating (I wonder if without a specific lat & long whether generate_outer_megatiles only does the default area)? Is there a step I missed? Do I need other loose gtls for the rest of that latitude? If so, can I extract them from the tagfiles? I can make new airports for the installation that uses only the tagfiles but I'll never be able to use them in my preferred installation as I am continually creating new rules for other areas. I suppose for my preferred installation I could recreate tagfiles A to C every time I finish a location but it's a bit of a hinderance. Tell me I'm doing something wrong and that my life is miraculously going to get easier! Cheers,D

Hi Dave,There are more than 48 gtls for the north expansion and more tag files also as far I remember a,b,c,d,e,fThe north east corner are forest only flat tilese.tag or f.tag, the 48 prepared tiles are in the western part d.tag.I have to check this for more details.See my page for more details about OT area http://www.agtim.ch/fu3/OTCreate.htmloutterr.cfg is defining the OT area and at generation all this areas are used so no need for lat/long...laterAndre
