September 30, 201114 yr Hi 1. Which service/acceleration packs exist for FSX and where can I download them? I read that some addons are working only if you have service pack 2 installed for FSX and you don´t need to install an acceleration pack. Is it true? 2. Is it better to install first FSX and then overclock the system, better the opposite, or it makes no difference at all? 3. Concerning that I will install a lot of addons for FSX I don´t know if they recognize the name of the hardware you have or the speed of it after being overclocked. Is it a problem to install addons after overclocking the system? Thanks harpsi
September 30, 201114 yr 1. There are two service packs (patches) for FSX, they can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/search.aspx?q=FSX+SP1 http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/search.aspx?q=FSX+SP2 It is true that some add-ons require the service packs to be installed in order to work, although it is not true that you don't need the Acceleration pack at all if you use some add-ons, since the Accelearation pack added some features to FSX that have been used in some add-on aeroplanes, for example, the IRIS F-20 Tigershark uses some features from the HUD in the F/A-18 that comes in the Acceleration pack, so although the IRIS F-20 will install into a non-Acceleration version of FSX, you would not see the HUD working properly without Acceleration. There are a few examples of this sort of thing where Acceleration is concerned, so it is true to say that you don't need Acceleration, but you probably will want it.2 & 3. Makes no difference when you overclock a system, since doing that simply speeds up the processor and runs it quicker, thus what you have installed as far as games and sims is concerned has little to do with it, they will simply run quicker.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here

Does it make difference for 737NGX or any comercial aircraft or even for sceneries? I just fly comercial aircrafts... I am not so interesting in missions, military aircrafts and so on. harpsi

September 30, 201114 yr A Yves said, nope, Acceleration basically turns FSX into a full-patched version and adds a few additional features, so there is no need to patch an Acceleration version of FSX with those SPs. Initially, A2A's add-ons required you to have Acceleration in order for their AccuSim to work properly, since Acceleration does add an engine damage option tick box which SP1 and SP2 do not add to FSX, but A2A figured out a way around that, so now you don't actually need Acceleration to enjoy all of the AccuSim features. However, since there may be some developers out there who use the engine damage feature of FSX Acceleration, it is just possible that you might need it to have one or two add-ons to work, although for the most part, developers are aware that not everyone has the Acceleration add on, so those who insist upon the need for Acceleration are likely to be few and far between, after all, even the PMDG NGX does not need FSX to have anything other than SP1 and SP2 installed.
