October 2, 201114 yr Figured this was as good a place to ask this question as any. Which is better? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks. Dan Cole Dan Cole
October 2, 201114 yr When I did research it was pretty hard to find any one clear answer. I think the meshes out there are pretty compatible. Some will do some areas better than others. I went with FSGenesis. I will say, if you go with it keep an eye out for sales -- they are constantly doing X% off of something nearly every week. I'm mixed on it -- the plateaus are noticeable but most of the time they are not game breaking and are only about a 5-20' differential. One time at some out-of-the-way airport it did cause an issue with the landing system and airport disagreeing on what ground elevation was. My only real complaint is in my home town of San Diego which is pretty mountainous. While San Diego has many hills and mountains and no flat areas, FSG turned it into a crazy roller coaster of rises and drops. You'd think cars would be catching air on the freeways with the sharpness of the ups and downs! I hear this is an issue with all meshes though that aren't custom tailored. Once you get over the rural areas though it's great! Overall I definitely enjoy it but I do wish it would be possible to carve out small areas and tell FSX to use the basic mesh. It's a weird case of more accuracy but not perfect accuracy actually makes things look less accurate! ;)
