A Different Anchorage Experience

Featured Replies

I had spent numerous evenings in PMDG’s 737NGX cockpit as I felt that I need a change. After several landings and take offs in Anchorage PANC last week, I finally ‘jumped out’ and ‘walked’ over to the Lake Hood seaplane base (LHD, PALH) which is also included in Simwing’s Anchorage package. Real nice scenery, too. But to my surprise, there was no ai-traffic at all. This was kinda disappointing as Lake Hood is known as one of the world’s largest and busiest seaplane bases. As I could not find any ai traffic /support in the web, I tried to make my first ai-traffic. Now, my PAHL is no more a ‘ghost town’ but has up to 6 seaplane landings /starts per hour. (I could have made more – but was conservative because of fps). I just did my first flight some minutes ago. This was real stunning. One of my most impressive fsx moments. When I waited for T/O (rw W), one landing ac and one ac for T/O in front of me, I could see and hear the train coming into PANC. Also saw some big airliners searching their way in PANC. After T/O I followed the ai ac in a right turn (320°) which gives a nice view of the whole saeplane base and the LHD GA strip. Being quite slow it was also enough time to see the marveellous PANC area and one 747 starting and another landing on rw 14. A very immersive fsx experience. Still following the ai ac after some miles I suddenly lost it in the clouds (AES was active). But fortunately, I saw another of ‘my’ ai ac on its way to PAHL. So I decided to follow this one just to come back very soon. Landing was perfect and just in time to see now a leaving train coming from PA NC. Just a 20 minute flight but but eh, so much to see… I am still working on the traffic file and I am also adjusting the original PALH airport file which was way to complex in the original version (IMO), nevertheless it worked with 'my' traffic files (Not 'My Traffic' ;-). If anybody is interested, I could share my files for PAHL ai traffic. But to get it to work, Simwings’ Anchorage and FsAddons Tongass Fjords have to be installed. I have used Holger Sandemanns Tongass Fjords ai seaplanes to bring life into PALH as I had no success with the fsx default seaplanes. Any ideas, how to change them to useable ai float planes? Best Regards Harry

Harry, that's great. I hope you're willing to share the fruit of your labor. I'm not very savvy with all this ai stuff. Anchorage is great isn't it!
