Warning about Activesky 2004 - buyer beware

Featured Replies

Maybe you could dear read the smart advises of Jim, wherehe advises to set in the fs9.cfg the TurbulenceScale to 0.200000instead of 1.00000.The abrupt changes in fs2004 weather engine come from this.hope this helps.

Michael -I have to agree with Darren. Honestly I know several users of active sky that are having the exact same problem as him and they have tried everything to fix it. Ken Salter, Avsim forum moderator, posted a thread that active sky winds were crashing his PMDG 737 too despite everything he tried. So it sure doesn't seem to be an isolated incident and I don't think these people have a collective agenga against active sky. I can't always figure it out why some people say nothing is wrong and others keep saying it's really messed up. I think it depends on expectations more than anything. I would say that compared to FS2002 and FSUIPC that works fully with it, ANY weather add on for FS9 is going to have abrupt wind shifts all the time. A lot of people are happy just living with it and enjoying the clouds. I think if you fly with ATC like VATSIM or if you use radar contact or something and you enjoy precision like we have with FS2002 you would get frustrated with programs like active sky not being able to fix the winds bug in FS9. I think if I read Darren correctly, he is saying that he thinks active sky is being presented as having a wind smoothing function (ergo it would specifically address the FS9 wind bug) but that this is subject to broad interpretation. :)Now, ahem. Why wasn't the winds bug flaw in FS9 brought to the attention to everyone during the grand initial reviews of FS9 back during the summer by prestigious sites like AVSIM? :( Seems you guys kinda glossed over this little snippet. Ah the eternal conflict between objectivity and commerce.......... :(

Okay, since both sides have been presented here, I am going to lock this down. There is an ActiveSky support forum here at AVSim that can help out for users having troubles. The link to the ActiveSky forum is:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=171Thanks,

It is true that I had problems. But, and I have not posted this in the ActiveSky forum, those problems have all but cleared up. The secret was to wipe out my fs9.cfg file and let FS create a brand new one. So far I have been happy. As to the AVSim review - your comment seems to suggest that AVSim sacrifices objectivity because of some economic benefit. That is rather insulting to the reviewers and is the fartherest thing from the truth.
