January 28, 200422 yr Hi,Could anyone please help me understand what the problem is when you get these kind of ugly edges (see the picture) when flying over water. Thanks for any help.Cheers,http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/60084.jpg
January 28, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, Are you using 3rd party ocean water texture?ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
January 29, 200422 yr Hi there,Yes, I'm using Peter Wiling's water textures (version 15). You think that might be the problem? When looking at all screenshots of his water textures they look really nice and far more realistic than the default ones, so...therfore I figured it was more likely that it was my system causing the problems rather than his textures...Found out after posting this question that it gets a little bit better when turning the "Extended textures" option on but the edges are still there though...Cheers,
January 29, 200422 yr hmmm, I'll tag this because I get the same problem. I thought that turning extended textures off helped? I get confused sometimes...rgds,billg
January 29, 200422 yr Chris Willis already documented this problem in another post, but I don't think many people noticed it.See this link: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...ing_type=search
January 29, 200422 yr HelloIn a few words: don't bother, it's not possible to repair, only "hide" it. It's MS limitation.I have exchanged few emails with Microsoft and tried all to my knowledge to get this out of the way - not possible. As mentioned about OceanFX, it also doesn't make things worse or better.I did testing with both original textures and OceanFX, and what I've seen, this cross exists in any case. On FL300 and above (without visibility limit), directly over water, you'll notice it clearly and it will be also noticable on the ground.Greetings, Word Not Allowed
January 29, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi, "As mentioned about OceanFX, it also doesn't make things worse or better."It does thing worser see the pic on the link, (clearly blocky blue texture) or try it at meigs at 30 000 feet and above, now if this example is available at meigs it will be increased in others area with others color. The problems is only the transition texture between water color and the new color. I am sure it is fixable , only change some color to blend more. Since the example above from the 3rd party meigs water blocky texture, with the default it does not appears, it will be fixable for others area by changing some color. With the ground texture you don't have this major blocky difference on matching texture."you'll notice it clearly and it will be also noticable on the ground."This is the redering engine since cfs2, fs2002 but improved in fs2004 with much less blur compare to fs2002. If you don't have the extented texture enabled radius setting and anasotropy, you will much more intense the transition on the ground, but in this case it's above 30 000 of water we are talking, on the ground this issue appears less noticable. This technique have been created for frame rate, having all these texture clear will be unflayable.ThanksChris Willis[link:fsw.simflight.com/FSWMenuFsSim.html]Clouds And Addons For MsFs Kind RegardsChris Willis
