November 23, 201114 yr I've been going back and forth in my mind regarding the actual benefit of getting a SSD and would appreciate your advice. I have asked before regarding a slightly different issue, but please bear with me here! So, I'm considering a Corsair F120GT which is a SATA6 disc and I already have a VRap 300GB. I've ordered a Asus P8Z68-V Pro Gen3 mobo, a i5 2500 CPU and a Corsair H80 cooler. IF I ordered the SSD I would only put Win7 64bit there and everything FSX and FS9 related on the Vrap simply because sooner or later I'd run out of space if I'd put everything on the SSD (I'm sticking with both sims). At this point I can't afford a bigger SSD either.I'll only use this computer for flight simming (the other games and more "serious" software I have on my i7920 computer). So right now my guess is that I can only expect quicker load of the OS and the sim but really nothing else? If that is correct, I really won't bother since it's after all some 170 € I have to fork out. My mind is slightly dizzy from all the differing info I've read so I'd appreciate a last minute advice since I'd order the SSD unit during the day! Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
November 23, 201114 yr Author Jim,that is indeed true and I've noticed with my i7920@3,8GHz and the Vrap that especially over Aerosoft Madeira textures can be a pain to load. Also, the main reason I started using FSX was because of the ORBX sceneries and while I haven't YET really noticed any lag with their textures with my currect setup, it can't hurt to be a bit future proof.Of course it's very dependent on the the rest of the system and setup, but would you say it's a very noticeable and practical difference or mostly on the data sheet?Furthermore, this might be a dumb question but isn't the Vrap a bottleneck for the initial texture loading since the sim is installed there while the cache would be read from the SSD.Thanks for your comment! November 23, 201114 yr I just got a Crucial M4 128GB for FSX only.Faster load times, faster texture loading, much less HD activity during flights, and no defrag required. Im pleased with my investment. Going to switch the OS over to an SSD at some point in the near future as well.I mainly fly in Orbx scenery areas and this usually requires a lot of HD activity. Defininte improvement since installing the SSD. Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
November 24, 201114 yr Author Thanks Glenn for your feedback! I've decided to try and be a bit mature about it and postpone it until the cashflow looks a bit better! :D Krister LindénEFMA, Finland------------------
