November 23, 201114 yr I run Win7 Pro (x64) and downloaded ccleaner v3.12.1572 (x64) from Filehippo.com yesterday.I ran the ccleaner X64 and then tried to run FSX and the FSX splash screen just hung with the mouse circle spinning. I have a baseline image for my drives but, had forgotten to back up my rewards/flights and just restarted those over again. I didn't know what caused the first hangup..so after the second install and after getting the "beginner" rewards back, I closed up shop for the night. I ran the ccleaner again this morning and AGAIN it hung up the FSX program on the splash screen.Of course I'm going to back up my flightlog, flightplans and rewards before I re-image for the 2nd time and then go back to using the ccleaner x32 as I don't recall it giving me any problems before.
November 24, 201114 yr I seriously doubt the problem is with CCleaner, 64 bit. Have you checked the system Event Viewer to see what the error was that caused the app to hang? The Event Viewer can be found by clicking the Start button, typing Event Viewer in the search bar, then looking up in the Menu and clicking on it. Once open, click on Custom Views>Administrative Events and look for an error around the time of the application crash. It will give you some clues as to what caused the crash.Best regards,Jim
November 24, 201114 yr Commercial Member When you say "ran", what part of ccleaner did you run? The cleaner might have removed cached files that would cause FSX to open more slowly, but highly unlikely that it caused FSX to not open at all. If you ran the registry cleaner, all bets are off. The registry doesn't ever need cleaning really, as in the grand scheme of things, it takes up a very small footprint. You may want to defrag your drive using piriform's defraggler, as ccleaner may have caused your drive to become a little defragmented if it removed a lot of gunk during cleaning. I'd then check to see what is running at startup using ccleaner's Tool->Startup and get rid of all unnecessary programs. Then reboot your computer completely to ensure a completely fresh start and see what FSX does. If it still hangs, copy your log from the Event Viewer Jim mentions above, maybe we can help you figure out what is causing the issue. If it's apphang, usually it can be avoided through practices such as what I mention above. November 24, 201114 yr No problem here. Come to think of it, have never had a problem ever. Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...
December 14, 201114 yr Author Under the Option menu in ccleaner there are new boxes for "wipe alternate data streams" and "wipe cluster tips"...after unchecking those boxes it seemed to alleviate the problem. I'm not about to mess with it.
