Idiot question concerning comm 2 radio selection.

Featured Replies

Hello AllLast night i thought i would give the ATR 42-500 a run out as I haven't used it for quite some time. The panel is quite a smart one but! I cant work out how to select the comm 2 radio. On some aircraft there is an option on the radio stack to select both (this is very useful as I like to have comm2 assigned to the ATIS of my destination. On this particular panel there are both comm 1 and 2 ,but if there is a way of selecting comm 2 (active) I cant find it.If i look under 'assignments' FS9 there is no key assigned for making comm 2 active eitherIf anybody can understand what i am talking about ,have you any ideas.PS I am not concerned about entering frequencies into COMM2 that's no problem. Just want to use the dammed thing to receive ATIS (or anything in the ATRs case.)cool.pngcheers Andy

Hi Andy,Have you checked in the aircraft configuration file to make sure the settings for Nav2 are correct?Example from the default 737-400;[Radios]// Radio Type = availiable, standby frequency, has glide slopeAudio.1 = 1Com.1 = 1, 1Com.2 = 1, 1Nav.1 = 1, 1, 1Nav.2 = 1, 1, 0 <------------------------- the second (1) makes Nav2 selectable / swappableAdf.1 = 1Transponder.1 = 1Marker.1 = 1If you have already checked this, sorry to have duplicated you own effort.Regards,Mel

it's probably the same for com2 as what Mel said.

No joy guys. This the radio entry in aircraft cfg 1.08, 1.843[Radios]// Radio Type = availiable, standby frequency, has glide slopeAudio.1 = 1Com.1 = 1, 0Com.2 = 1, 1 As you can see I have altered this entry to '1' but has made no difference.Nav.1 = 1, 0, 1Nav.2 = 1, 0, 0Adf.1 = 1Transponder.1 = 1Marker.1 = 1PS The problem is not that the COMM 2 radio does't work ,there is just nowhere in the panel to select it. The best I could come up with in 'Assignments' is to assign a key to transmit on COMM 2 that seem s to work but its messy solution and unless you are prepared assign yet another key (running out of keys anyway) to transmit on COMM1 you cant actually switch back to COMM 1 either.I suppose I could add a Cessna Bendix ,but surely there must be a better way that that.I have been trying to find out the Panel author's name ,but cant find any ref anywhere, suffice to say its a panel that's definitely a cut above the average ,very smart.I am sure there used to be click point for COMM 2 ,but for the life of me I have pointed my mouse like no mouse has been pointed before but of a click point there is none.Andy

I may have found the answer.. The panel was actually produced for FS2002, and eventually ,having waded through aircraft model's trying to find Panel notes/operating instructions ,I found this .. Note: the COM2 radio cannot be programmed in xml code due to a FS2002 bug. This panel uses the default King Air COM2 radio (which is included in the Professional edition only) due to this problem. Therefore, the Standard edition users will not have a working COM2 radio. Thie is the only known incompalitility (so far) specific to the standard edition. Please do not ask me to send you this gague: is is copyrighted by Microsoft.
