February 7, 200422 yr Hi all:I renamed my original install, then proceeded to install again (as is my want!).When I start up the new copy, it proceeds until it gives a "Aircraft initializaion failure: Continental B737-700" then quits. Now, that aircraft is the PMDG 737-700 that I regularly fly in the original installation. So how did my new installation know about it? And how to solve this?P.S.: since you asked, I have a couple of texture glitches in my original install, so I was seeing if a fresh install would give me my fix.
February 7, 200422 yr The PMDG '700 has lots of bits and pieces... Are you sure you have all of them in the new installation (I'm assuming you've installed using identical folder names)... Usually this failure points to something missing, or a wrong path in one of the .cfg files. Also remember (if you haven't copied the '700 over to the new install) that some of the flight specific files are not contained in the main COF folder, but in your home user folder. MSFS may be using these to point to an aircraft saved under your old installation..... Just do a search for "FLT" files and that will make what I said a bit clearer (my brain is somewhat foggy from a long day at the office)...-John
February 7, 200422 yr Hi Ken,I presume, you don't have the PMDG 737 in your new installation? Do you have FSUIPC installed in your 'new' FS? If yes to both, does the same error occur with FSUIPC disabled? If not, my guess would be that the PMDG gauges 'wake up' as soon as FSUIPC and FS9.exe start up, regardless of their location. In this case, FSUIPC would send information to FS about a plane that obviously doesn't exist. Maybe renaming your new folder and .exe could sove the problem...Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
February 7, 200422 yr In their infinite wisdom, MS didn't put everything in the main FS9 folder. The start-up flight designation is in the FS9.cfg file which, in XP, is to be found in Documents and SettingsUser NameApplication DataMicrosoftFS9. The actual flight files are placed in your Documents and SettingsUser NameUser Name DocumentsFlight Simulator Files folder. What's happening is that the new install is seeing the old start-up flight designation in the old FS9.cfg file and then it tries to load the aircraft designated in the old flight files (which is the PMDG 737). So....once the PMDG 737 is reinstalled all should be well again. February 7, 200422 yr Hi Doug,I think Ken has noticed that ;). Just do a search in the library for fs9cfg14.zipCheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
February 7, 200422 yr I made the ASSUMPTION (we all know what happens when we do this) that the installation would overwrite the fs9.cfg file...i guess it didn't. My default flight in my original installation was PMDG cold and dark...Thanks for the hints...I'll see what I can do from here.
