Thinking about ASE

Featured Replies

Hello,I know that the responses will be a bit bias in the Active Sky forum but common sense dictates this is where I will get the most accurate answer. I am looking at purchasing ASE for FS9 since I am looking for the most realistic wx experience, I am currently using the build it REX wx engine and am really looking for a good low IFR experience. My biggest complaint is that while it will produce low IFR while taxiing around an airfield, once in the air the fog/clouds dissapear and you can see for miles; this seems to be a REX limitation. Any comments on ASE are very appreciated. Thanks

Hi,Part of this is FSX limitations, and also the removal of the dreaded "haze layer" which is not desirable for most users (I understand this is by default in your graphics add-on). ASE contains FOG LAYER SIMULATION which injects a cloud layer near the surface when visibility is less than 2 miles which provides an alternative fog depiction that many find much more realistic. Also, in ASE you can force the haze layer back on, if you wish, regardless of your graphics add-on... This is done by toggling the FS haze layer option (ASE options) after installing textures, to reset the appropriate haze effect back to on. You can also disable cirrus textures (if permitted by your add-on) after picking a good set, then toggle the haze option, and it will stay there without needing further toggles (only needed when new cirrus textures are installed which eliminate the haze).Hope that helps...

Yes this does help Damien, thanks very much. I was trying to find a weather engine which can simulate ground fog. I just needed some clarification and will be picking myself up a copy soon. Thanks
