  1. For those that are on facebook and follow PMDG, the DC-6 is boarding. This means just another step closer. Next will be takeoff, cruise, approach and then landing.
  2. This is actually good news, they always place it on the website close to release and then set the price extremely high as to make sure no one buys it before the actual release.
  3. P3D works best without tweaks, buy it and start giving it a go. You've got the 60 day refund if you are not satisfied with it.
  4. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I am now just waiting to see if a sale pops up for anything soon. Hopefully the 210 or 207 get knocked down a few bucks.
  5. First off, I had a topic about migrating to XP a while back. I've been playing with it now and I am seriously impressed by the sim and the "realness" factor provided. The new b6 from 10.40 is impressive to say the least. A few questions for the X-plane gurus and to the community: -I am looking for a really good general aviation (single or twin) recip prop to get started, what would everyone recommend? I don't mind paying for quality either. Carenado/Alabeo have fantastic models but I am not sure if their "systems depth" is the same as on the P3D platform. -Is there a utility which changes how ocean waters look at the more tropical locations? I primarily enjoy flying in the Florida region and the ocean/gulf seem to be a bit dark. (Maybe this is an effect of being spoiled by REX). I think thats about the only questions I have left as I have UHD mesh, world2xplane working, along with things like xsquawkbox. But feel free to add anything I am missing.
  6. Carl, What store was this? I would love to grab RSW for that price.
  7. I just got the 404 and absolutely love it, I am always hesitant with Alabeo/Carenado stuff but chose to buy from the alabeo.com store as they do offer a refund if you choose not to like the product. The 403 in the plane is nice but that's about it, I haven't purchased the flight 1 750 yet so I can't really say if that feature works. The AP works brilliantly as it should tracking "old" style nav equipment. The flight dynamics "feel" right, although the biggest twin I've flown is a Seminole and have about 50 hours in it. Overall I'm very happy with it especially running around the smaller Florida Airports.
  8. The 2nd one could be real! Very nice shots.
  9. Sonic, PMDG forums require your full name, the mods have been pretty antsy about it lately. Anyway 8.9.5 of the AOM will have your answer.
  10. Carenado, I believe have the advantage of the default 530 and blade element theory with XPX. In the FSX/P3D arena, its harder to get the "feel" right and the avionics. Carenado have always produced great looking aircraft but they have been lacking in the systems department.
  11. I thought Windows 8 was Vista 2.0? My mistake maybe. It probably either boils down to a marketing thing to name it windows 10, or 8.1 is windows 9, or they had a windows 9 and it was really bad so were skipping to 10.
  12. Welcome to Avsim, you'll find a lot of different sub forums here with a lot of different discussions. Toward the top of the page is all about avsim and flight sim, middle are simulator specific forums, bottom are more commercial developer support forums and then some odds and ends at the very bottom.
  13. I agree with two exceptions, the optimize_parts and optimize_clouds settings.
  14. This is better posted in the classifieds forums, you will get more responses.
  15. As mentioned above, IE isn't dead. Actually it will continue to be updated/available for those users with "legacy" hmm "enterprise" applications. It might not be the fastest, but it has served many people incredibly well. IE was designed when the Internet was for browsing; chrome/Firefox have come around later and were designed slightly differently. I view the browser wars very much like the FS9/FSX/P3D/XPX debates. Each browser has their own special use and forte, along with downsides to each.
  16. Just updated to these as well, working great for me.
  17. They have stated this aircraft will be more of a study level sim with a lower amount of first officer automation compared to what is found in their A321 series.
  18. -2.5 have a new file system which allows for greater flexibility going forward, this however means the current addons which are complex needed to be reworked. The major addon's have all been updated to be compliant with v2.5. Performance has been increased, it varies system to system but I have noticed my install has increased the fluidity (is that a word?) even at lower frames. -Tweaks except for those found in the LM learning center are not suggested for prepar3d installs. -Water looks good to me, I use REX TD4 with DX11. -PMDG released their products for P3D, both the 777 and NGX are out. That being said, PMDG have stated the 64bit update will be free, that is what is probably next to come at some point. -Its up to you to decide if FSX is worth the install. Keep in mind, P3D is pushing the limits of hardware right now but it is doing it while keeping the sim smooth at lower frames. FSX doesn't have the eye candy such as cloud shadows and HDR which P3D has.
  19. As with all commodities, the product is worth what people are willing to pay. Whether is PMDG, Flight1, Carenado, ORBX, FSDreamteam; if the community believes that a product is worth at or more than the addon's are priced at then products are purchased. If the community believes they are not worth the price charged then they are not bought. Users of this community also have different budgets, some of us are students while others are retired. The benefit to flight sim software is that it is more of a "sandbox". Consider that to other games, many console games have a set storyline and then you've beat the game. Desktops manufactured seem to hover around $2,200, plus a few software titles a year flight sim is somewhere in the vicinity of $2,600-$3,000 every four years or so. At the same time, PCs have other uses than just flight sim. So at the very high end $750 a year with the hardware included, but that's if you only use the PC for flight sim exclusively. Its pretty cheap considering the time I spend on flight sim, around 10-15 hours a week. Its about 750 hours a year, equating to roughly $1 per hour of enjoyment. Only maybe netflix is a better bargain for entertainment.
  20. Thanks Kyle, is there a timeline for this (besides soon). Currently weighing whether its worth it to wait for an FSX update (free) vs purchasing a new license for P3D.
  21. Does Aerosoft have the latest NGX update that was released today?
  22. It will be released for all three sims. My guess is that the aircraft that was shown to us two years ago was very far in development for FSX. Just recently they've gotten the XPX version to the same point.
  23. I think its time that I invest in a solid traffic addon for AI models for Prepar3d, and I am looking for opinions. I only fly online, and have never really cared for the built in AI traffic. I use VATSIM's vpilot to connect to the network and would like traffic on the network to properly be visible to myself.
  24. This is right from the forum, as an announcement at the top.
