Weather depiction just plain Incorret

I have been using AS2012 since it arrived a few weeks ago. I have been unable to get an accurate depiction of overcast at all times. Winds, altimeter, etc are all ok, it is just the clouds are not being depicted correctly. I have tried several settings and to no avail. Suggestions/help appreciated.Joe

Hi Joe! Many of us have come to same conclusion. Two issues here with AS2012 it seems. First issue is that either the textures or the way it is communicating with FSX have resulted in far less density of clouds than ASE for same metar and definitely less than manual entry. The second issue...for me the big one...is that AS2012 cannot produce a true overcast no matter how the metar is set up. Many of us have tried to set multiple layers of overcast and FSX still shows scattered or at best broken and terrible depiction of stratus layers! FSX is flawed in that it will not allow LOW dense cloud layers period in most cases and that is true manually, with ASE, and AS2012. I have experimented with manual input of low cloud bases and then slewed the aircraft upward and not entered cloud til above 4000 agl.Out of sheer frustration I began my own experiments with different algorithms to determine if it might be possible to trick FSX into producing a total overcast and then if it could be set to true IMC conditons. The following thread shows the results I was able to eventually obtain. I have been able to produce TOTAL opaque overcast decks down to CAT IIIb minimums and the sensation is the same as the real weather I experienced in RW despite the limitations of FSX! If it can be done manually then the developers at Hifi should be able to build a subroutine to accomplish it as an upgrade to AS2012. They solved the inaccurate winds-aloft problem that was far more complicated than this will be. I have great faith in the abilities and determination of Damian and Chris to produce a truly realistic weather engine. http://forum.avsim.n...wn-to-minimums/
