Addon Scenery Priorities

Featured Replies

I belong to a group (German) of online flyers (IFR) of which I take the role of Ground Controller. As in our group there are FS9 and FSX users there is often a conflict between the airport details which can be confusing in the Euroscope map. To this end I try to produce a bgl file for FS9 using the data from FSX. As, to the best of my knowledge there is yet no way of converting FSX bgl's to FS9 bgl's I do this by hand. Using 2 monitors and the two programms AFX and ADE to transfer the airport details from FSX to FS9 and then save the FS9 bgl. I then convert this data bgl to the relevant files necessary for Euroscope using the programm bgl2sct. While this conversion is succesful a few of my companions are doubtfull about inserting the bgl file into the FS9/Addon Scenery/Scenery file as they do not know how this will affect any third party sceneries of the same name as my bgl file. Can anyone explain the Addon Scenery priorities for example when I use Aerosoft EGLL and wish to use my 'home brewed' EGLL.bgl in any of the Simulations be it FS9 or FSX.

First off, there is a program by the author of ADE called FSX2FS9 to do what you want. If you put the airport facility bgl in addon scenery, it should be overridden by the Aerosoft, but then the question is what do you want to have happen? If you mean you only want to use your home-made conversion bgls only some times, I would create a new scenery area for them and place it at highest priority, then check it active/inactive as desired. In fs9 you have to restart if you use the scenery library to do this, but you could also do it with a text editor on scenery.cfg or a 3rd party scenery manager. (You might look at Scenery Config Editor v1.1 for example.)Note that if you use your home-made bgl with Aerosoft, you could have other conflicts (buildings in the way, etc) in which case the "separate scenery area" just for you bgls would be best, but in this case when you make your bgls "active" you also make the aerosoft "inactive". The above mentioned 3rd party manager lets you group scenery addon areas, so you can turn on/off multiple ones at once. scott s..
