Strange GPU/Monitor Issue

Featured Replies

I bought a new monitor for Christmas and had them in a dual monitor setup and it was working fine and dandy until I came to my computer today. My left monitor (plugged into the second port on my gpu) wasn't working. I tried unplugging it and windows doesn't even detect that there is a display. Then I did a clean install of my graphics card driver and that didn't work. I just tried switching which port the displays where plugged into and now the other monitor isn't work but the first one that wasn't working is now working. It seems the second DVI port is broken? Can you even damage your dvi out on your graphics card?

Have you tried swapping the dvi cables out to rule that out?

I can rule that simply by the fact I switched the monitors where they were plugged in. The dvi cables are still plugged into the original monitors. When I switched the monitors the displays flipped. Meaning that now the one not working is now working and the one working is now not working. Can you short or damage or anything a dvi port by turning off your computer and monitor around the same time. It seems possible.

Yes I guess you could, although it certainly is not a very common thing to see happen.
