January 8, 201214 yr Hi all,As a newbie to FS and these forums I was greatly impressed by the amount of skill and knowledge members have and I would be very grateful if you could review and recommend a system from the two options that I have detailed below (I do not want to make a mistake for the sake of a few quid). I will ultimately want to fly the PMDG 737NGX using yoke, pedals and displayed on 1 or 2 monitors.System 1: I5 2500K overclockedCase: COOLERMASTER CM690 MKII ADVANCED CASEOverclocked CPU Overclocked Intel® Core™i5-2500k Quad Core (3.30GHz @ max 4.60GHz)Motherboard ASUS® P8Z68-V/GEN3: PCI-E 3.0 READY, SLI, CROSSFIREXMemory (RAM) 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)Graphics Card 1.25GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 Ti 448 CORE (Ltd Edition Superfast Card)Memory - 1st Hard Disk 120GB INTEL® 320 SERIES SSD, SATA 3 Gb/s (upto 270MB/sR | 130MB/sW)2nd Hard Disk 1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE (7200rpm) Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAMMemory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORTPower Supply CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX650 V2- PLUS® BRONZE (£72)Processor Cooling COOLIT ECO II A.L.C ADVANCED LIQUID COOLER (£59)Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND (£9)Sound Card ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)Network Facilities 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCsUSB Options 6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARDOr I7 2600 OverclockedCase COOLERMASTER CM690 MKII ADVANCED CASEOverclocked CPU Overclocked Intel® Core™i7-2600k Quad Core (3.40GHz @ max 4.80GHz)Motherboard ASUS® P8Z68-V/GEN3: PCI-E 3.0 READY, SLI, CROSSFIREXMemory (RAM) 8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz, X.M.P (2 x 4GB KIT)Graphics Card 1.25GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 Ti 448 CORE (Ltd Edition Superfast Card)Memory - 1st Hard Disk 120GB INTEL® 320 SERIES SSD, SATA 3 Gb/s (upto 270MB/sR | 130MB/sW)2nd Hard Disk 1TB WD CAVIAR BLACK WD1002FAEX, SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB CACHE 7200rpm)(1st DVD/BLU-RAY Drive 24x DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER ±R/±RW/RAMMemory Card Reader INTERNAL 52 IN 1 CARD READER (XD, MS, CF, SD, etc) + 1 x USB 2.0 PORTPower Supply CORSAIR 650W ENTHUSIAST SERIES™ TX650 V2- PLUS® BRONZE (£72)Processor Cooling COOLIT ECO II A.L.C ADVANCED LIQUID COOLER (£59)Thermal Paste ARCTIC MX-4 EXTREME THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY COMPOUND (£9)Sound Card ONBOARD 6 CHANNEL (5.1) HIGH DEF AUDIO (AS STANDARD)Network Facilities 10/100/1000 GIGABIT LAN PORT - AS STANDARD ON ALL PCsUSB Options 6 x USB 2.0 PORTS @ BACK PANEL (MIN 2 FRONT PORTS) AS STANDARDFirewire & Video Editing 3 Port IEEE 1394a Firewire PCI Card (£9)Operating System Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit - inc DVD & LicenceI will also be using Gen x scenery and Rex2 weather gen.Money is tight so I do not want to spend money where I will not necessarily gain any benefit. Many thanks to all those who can help.Ceddy
January 8, 201214 yr Like the most, don't like the GPU, but probably enough. RAM a bit on the low side, but shouldn't make lots of difference. Should be CL7. Take 2500K. Edited January 8, 201214 yr by Kosta
January 8, 201214 yr The first rig is great. Very close to mine, actually. Who's building this system?Word Not Allowed, I tend to disagree with you. RAM is fine. No marked difference will be noticed. Ever. And the GPU? The GTX 560 is FSX standard. January 8, 201214 yr I never owned 560ti, but I can't imagine 560ti having the same AI power. In other words cranking up AA and AF can't be the same performance. But I'd gladly have someone prove me wrong. Or if you want we two could test it out - trying to set up a situation with the same settings, since CPU performance is going to be similar. And RAM, I agree, that is why I said there shouldn't be much of performance difference.
January 8, 201214 yr I never owned 560ti, but I can't imagine 560ti having the same AI power. In other words cranking up AA and AF can't be the same performance.Absolutely. But for FSX's purposes, the 560ti is affordable and can more than cope with higher AA settings. I have absolutely no jaggies on this 1080p screen and my 560ti, and have found good FPS with dense hi-res clouds.Personally, I've never noticed AF settings affecting FPS. Maybe I should mess around with that?Remember:Money is tight so I do not want to spend money where I will not necessarily gain any benefit. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

Check my latest screenshots, you'll see what I mean.I had cheaper cards in the past and I was never able to get that oomph. Now, 580GTX kills, yeah, but can 560ti keep up FPSwise with the 580GTX when you crank up 8xS + 2xSGSS + 16x AF? I somehow don't believe it... but hey, can't prove it.I only know that the card eats everything that I feed it, and yes, it is running high, meaning BP=0, I get the usage up to 90% in some really heavy situations. Even can go up to 100%, this is when I start getting GPU errors, cuz it's can't keep up...(known thing with BP=0) - so, if I'm pushing 580GTX to the limit, what about 560ti, which is weaker? I have my hopes on kepler for this. What the 560 can't do, the 580 will not do that much better.

I can say, however, that for a budget and FSX the 560 ti is A Okay. I have my hopes on kepler for this. What the 560 can't do, the 580 will not do that much better.Do you have tests with both cards and same settings somewhere? Right now, you are talking apples and oranges... if to compare and decide, numbers are needed. Running FSX through FSXMark11, both cards, same settings, same computer. Then we can say if it's worth or not. This way it's impossible to know. Just saying 580 can't handle 64_v12 has no meaning whatsoever.

I have AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12 with my settings all cranked to the right with water back a notch and full clouds with REX and ASX and UTX2 at 100% with complex aircraft while in ORBX PNW with FPS rarely dropping below 25 to 30 and usually enjoy around 35 FPS when locked there in Nvidia Inspector. What's the problem?Kind regards, Edited January 8, 201214 yr by SpiritFlyer
January 8, 201214 yr We've turned this OP into a mess. If you can put into numbers the justification (FPS, smoothness, etc) for a $500+ card in FSX for a given person, I'd be interested in seeing it. That was my only point. The OP made it quite clear money is an object. The 580 shouldn't be mentioned to muddy the waters. That's an enthusiast+ card for people who can afford to drop tons of cash on minute AA differences, sparing no expense.Oh. BTW. Word Not Allowed, if you like, we can trade cards to "test the differences". Edited January 8, 201214 yr by ZachLW ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
January 8, 201214 yr Fair enough Zack. My only point was to correct a completely false statement that you quoted, not to challenge yours.Kind regards, Edited January 8, 201214 yr by SpiritFlyer
January 8, 201214 yr Fair enough Zack. My only point was to correct a completely false statement, quoting it the same way you did.Kind regards,Quite, me too. 560ti is going to be OK for him. I missed the thing with the tight budget.Oh. BTW. Word Not Allowed, if you like, we can trade cards to "test the differences". :Idea:You wouldn't have any use of it It's under the watercooler, which, if I read correctly, you can't use! :Tounge:But I'm all for tests if you're up to it!
