How much memory?

Featured Replies

I have a question or two for those in the know and have an opinion? How much difference does the amount of memory make?Heres the deal, I hae been running for a number of years with 4GB of memory as I had a 32 bit OS. After this latest,Windows crash had to reload Windows, I bit he dust and went the 64 bit route. I have an older Asus board, P5n-D that suports only 8 GB of ram. currently my 4GB are in two modules so I can put 2 more 2 GB modules in, I currently have 2 1GB memory cards that would bring me up to 6 GB, My question is would the 2 extra GB going from 6 to 8 GB be worth it or would 6GB probably be OK. In fact is it even worth going to 6 GB of ram over leaving it a 4 that I currently have?My board will only support 8GB of ddr2 800 ram, My cpu is a Core2duo Q9650 at 3GHz Video is a EVGA GTX 560.With this set up I get close to 40 Fps with out HDR, with HDR rendering on, I get right around 24 fps. I run in extereme resolution no compression, most everything else is set in the ton range except objects are generally in the Megaton range. shadows are never higher that overlay. Traffic is Kansas whatever. I've had this setup for a number of years and it has done me well. I get about the same in FSX as I do here, maybe a bit less fps in FSX, but not by much. I have been pretty happy with this.I was just wondering if memory would make much difference as on my next build I plan on doing a lot of memory. All opinions are solicited, and appreciated :(
