February 21, 200422 yr hey, i'm trying to get my water looking a bit better as i've been using the bill & Lynn Lyons calm textures for ages now.Had a go with ocean fx2 and Daniel Buechter's oceanheightfield bmp's for the reflections and got a pretty nice effect but it looks a bit dark and more like fs2002 water for me.I dont know whether to stick with it or go back to the Lyons textures.Could anybody post some screens of thier water if they think they've got it good so i can have a look please? Thanks, http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64022.jpg
February 21, 200422 yr Check out this post http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=118420&page=2Mike's very proud of "his" water combo, but it's all personal preference.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmthelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters Best, Michael KDFW
February 21, 200422 yr I think everyone has different ideas about what is nice looking water- best try them all - there are several alternative texture sets available - see what grabs your fancy. Just backup the originals before you start.Daveo
February 21, 200422 yr i guess what you think water looks like depends on where you live... and fly. water's pretty dark around here.:)having said that, i have found my sweet spot with waterzone textures and morewatr wave bitmaps.good luck in your quest for water!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64094.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64095.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64097.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64098.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64099.jpg
February 22, 200422 yr Hey Vilk, those screenshots are spectacular :)How does your choice of textures appear throughout the animation cycle? One of the many reasons why I have settled on 'my' combo is that in the daytime they look convincing throughout the cycling phase. We are all aware how great the MS default textures can appear one second and quite awful the next - hence the desire to circumvent this problem as best we can.My only reservations lie with the appearance at stages of the cycling animation when seen at night. Having said that, the combo really isn't at all bad when seen at night, just not quite perfect ;)Mike

February 22, 200422 yr Hey Vilk, that is the best looking water I have seen to date!! Pic 3 is spectacular. can you post exactly what files you are using, would love to install it!!Thanks!!!Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/PBTMCa.jpgCalVirAir International VACougar Mountain Helicopters & Aviation[link:www.cgrmthelos.com]Cougar Mountain Helicopters Best, Michael KDFW
February 22, 200422 yr Hello, I agree ocean fx2 and Daniel Buechter's, waterzone and bill lyons are the best available for fs2004, I recommend to use these only and don`t waist you time with others files they are not realistic, these are the BEST AVAILABLE for Fs2004 hands down. Never spend your money if there will be water texture as payware.BestEric
February 22, 200422 yr thanks, you're too kind folks... three cheers to the watermakers!:)the setup is quite simple. i used waterzone for a while and i liked the colours a lot. my only problem were the waves, somewhat longish, which meant loss of credibility when the crests in the static textures were at an angle with the animated waves. (you can see it still in the fifth screenshot, that's about the worst it ever gets now).then morewatr came out and i immediately fell in love with the brilliant, sparky wavelets. alas, the colours were too milky-greenish for my deep-and-dark canadian lakes... so i took the textures from waterzone and the waves (i.e. the files that begin with env_ in your sceneryworldtexture folder) from morewatr. the oceanheightfield bitmap is also from morewatr (that one goes in the root texture folder).that's all there is to it.peacevilkps. sometimes, if i'm totally bored and feel like chasing after the wind, i play with different versions of pwover for subtle hue variations in env_overcast.bmp. but haven't done that in a long while, really...:)pps. i don't really know much about these things. i wouldn't be surprised if i got the texture/animation technicalities wrong. bottom line, it works.
February 22, 200422 yr mike, i've never noticed anything outrageously wrong throughout the whole array or possible weather-time combinations. if you pressed me hard, i would say the only glitch i know is the animated waves going at an angle to the texture waves. but, like i said in my other reply, these waves are short enough to live with it happily.:)three more, in ms overcast fair weather, at night and at dusk... compression kills one nice effect: thousands of tiny animated wave crests in the distance, best observed in the first screenie.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64148.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64149.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/64150.jpg
