Nvidia 56.55

Just tried these drivers. Everything seems to work OK. except fs9. It just won't boot up.I get the opening screen for about 4 seconds, then nothing. Roll back to the Omega 45.23a and it starts up fine. I follow the installation instructions to the letter. Anyone have any idea where I'm going wrong ( 'cos I bet it's me )Russell.

When going from the 40.xx series drivers to the 50.xx series it's important to remove the reference to the card from the fs9.cfgYou can delete FS9.cfg and then reboot the sim, which will cause a reboot with all default settings, which you can then adjust, but this also loses all assignments and other FS9.cfg `tweaks` you may have applied, so you get around this by just deleting the lines in the .cfg that refer to your GeForce card (I'm not in front of my game computer at moment, but if you look for the reference to resolution you can deleete that entire segment safely). This forces FS to re-recognise the graphic card on reboot and should get you past the freeze on startup.Allcott

Thanks very much for that excellent reply Allcott. I was feeling a little wound up after just spending the last 8hrs negotiating the far too busy Trans Pennine M/way (both ways ) Now you've made me happy.Russell.

While not disputing what you say about deleting , Allcott - I 've got to say that I installed the 56.55 a few days ago and all worked fine without doing that!( I had every intention of doing it but just forgot as I was interrupted halfway thru it all). The 56.55 seem good - fps is up by a couple of frames in "heavy" situations.Dave

I'm sorry to day deleting the fs9cfg made no difference. Still just got the opening screen for about 10sec. then nothing. It does'nt lock or freeze. I can carry on using the computer, it just refuses to load fs9. It did write a new cfg which has Nvidia TI4600 on,so I assume it is seeing the card. Rolled back to the Omega's and it loaded just fine.Russell.

OK, then the other reason is that you still have vestiges of the old drivers left in the system.www.guru3d.com has a choice of Nvidia driver removal tools. Make sure you prepare a system restore point before you use the tool, then install the new drivers in the usual way, after being prompted for drivers for the `new hardware` found on boot up.The problem is that Omega often uses registry tweaks that are compatible only for that version of the driver.Allcott

Sorry for the late reply (work) Followed your advice but still got the same result, just the opening screen then nothing. I notice when it builds the new cfg. it just goes to the co-pilot bit,4kb in size. Went back to the Omega's and everything works fine. Wondering if the download was corrupt maybe. Funny thing is everything else works fine, only fs9 affected. I'm going to stick with these till I get someone who knows a bit more ( bit more? a lot more ) than me to have a go. Thanks very much for your help, much appreciated.Russell.

Russell, by any chance, were you trying to start the sim in full-screen-mode? This sometimes is a prob with new drivers. I would recommend starting and closing FS in windowed-mode. Kind regardsJaap

I always run in windowed mode Jaap. However I just checked the cfg that it builds with the new drivers and noticed that it said--Full Screen=1. I changed that to =0 and tried again. Same result, just the opening screen then it just quits loading. I'm sure as heck no expert, but have changed drivers quite a few times with no trouble. I bet it comes down to something really simple, but it's doing my head in. Thanks for the help anyway.Russell.

>Trans Pennine M/way (both ways )Driving that sucker is hell no matter what the weather. But if you want some driving fun, try Cardiff to Llandudno using the renowned A470, now that is sheer motoring hell especially if you get a tractor in front.TAke care buddy, I have no suggestiosn re the drivers as they worked for me ok, perhaps it could be a direct x thing, possibly.Wycliffe (EGFF)

Amen to that Wycliffe, try a Grover 3chime like I've just fitted. That shifts the tractors (and everything else within 500yrds)Russell.

When you reboot, the screen defaults to basic vga presentation. From there, you can install the new drivers, reboot and configure away.sherm
