January 23, 201214 yr After I did a bit of research into FSX scaling per clock and posted it here, people said that it may have been bad because of my RAM speed. so this is my RAM:http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=12493And I want to get better speeds out of it. Currently it is at 1600 9-9-9-24 @ 1.5V. I am kind of aiming for 8-8-8-24, maybe even tighter than that, but I have seen around places that 1.65V which I would need is unsafe for a 1.5V kit on SB. Is it? Are there any other changes that I will have to make in my BIOS in order to get some better results from the RAM?Thanks in advance, Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society. January 23, 201214 yr AndrewIs RAM speed really important in a SB O/C rig? You are overclocking the cpu multiplier and not the FSB, so as I understand it the speed of the RAM becomes less apparent/important. ie the cpu speed is the prime factor. Obviously fast low CAS RAM may give better performance but it may not have the same improvement/impact as it did in the i7 9xx series.Just a thought.PeterH

Tighter timings and higher speed RAM isn't going to make any noticeable difference in you FSX performance. I know a lot of guys there in the FSX forum were saying that's the issue, but they're dead wrong. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
January 24, 201214 yr ZachI agree with this : "there in the FSX forum were saying that's the issue, but they're dead wrong"Ishould have added that if you are not overclocking the FSB there is little point in overclocking the RAM and apparently there is very little real tangible value from higher speed RAM than the defualt recommended by the manufacturer.PeterH
January 24, 201214 yr Author well that's nice to know, so I guess FSX is just hopeless with its scaling per clock. Still, any advice for it? January 24, 201214 yr AndrewI use a standard good quality GSkill 1600Hz DDR3 RAM that was recommended for the cpu (i7 2600K) that I am running. As long as the RAM matches the cpu I guess with SB there's little point in spending more money on expensive faster RAM as the benefits may be minimal. If I changed it back to the same speed as yours I doubt that I would see changes in the way it handles FSX. If your RAM seems to be OK - why change it? I do use 8GB (2x4Gb) because I also use Photoshop CS5 64-bit for my photo editing and 8Gb on a 64-bit OS seems to be the norm these days (and 16Gb is just starting to be fashionable  ) - just gives me that extra bit of headroom but it probably doesn't affect FSX. My only advice would be to try 8GB matched RAM, and 1333Mhz or 1600Mhz (very little price difference) should be fine.RegardsPeterH
January 24, 201214 yr Author Yeah well as you would know we get the Education tax Refund out here so we may be able to claim quite a bit back and maybe get some RAM and my Transformer Prime ^_^ Both optimists and pessimists contribute to our society.
