Scenery flattened ???

Featured Replies

I don't know what happened but suddenly all default scenery in the USA is at 0 ft AGL. But all airfields are at their normal elevation. I disabled my add-on scenery but nothing changed. Scenery elevation in other continents seems to be correct and normal. What could cause this anomaly ? A missing BGL, conflicting BGL, incorrect flatten swiches ?? How do I fix this ?thanks for helping, ciao, Jurjen

Hi Jurjen:Are you using any of Rob Gainer's recent add-on meshes? If so, deactivate them in the scenery library and see whether the problem goes away.Cheers, HolgerP.S. I wonder how often we have to repeat this message before Rob gets around to fixing his files...

Holger,Thanks for helping me out: after some searching I indeed found two mesh BGL's by Gainer that were causing the problem. Initially I forgot to disable them since they were in the Addon Sceneryscenery subdir. thx again !

Hi Rob:thanks, as always, for your personal attacks; they make my efforts look that much more... heroic. I am the shiny knight :-halo fighting a lonely fight against the evil mesh monster :-fume In this particular thread, I was helping a user of your mesh files solving a problem - where were you?Fact is that the replacement file for your akmesh.zip has the same issues as the original, though they affect a smaller area. Here are some pictures for proof: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=1612&mode=fullI'm confused about your intentions regarding the faulty files. Here's what you say in the read-me doc of your Idaho-Wyoming mesh file:"The following files are no longer supported( and will vanish off FS web sites ) Alaska ( all versions )Seaor.zipNYC CityIf you have any of those files , you are to delete them."However, those 650MB of files are still available here and on other FS webservers. As long as they remain available, people will download them and then report the problems here, and we'll continue the cycle ad infinitum. Cheers, Holger

Hi Robert.I just thought I'd get in the last word. Hope I didn't spoil your day.To recap:Jurjen had a problem with some addon scenery.Holger suggested it may have been some mesh you created.Jurjen responded it was, in fact this mesh, and thanked Holger. You responded with nonsense. Is this right? Is this a pattern you have developed to respond to problems in your life... the life that doesn't give you time to view forums? Or is this type of response reserved just for our pleasure?Dick

Hi Rob,Really--seriously, though, Rob, any designer of anything, has some obligation do some sort of testing before public distribution. The tools for testing are readily-available, and a simple fly-through, or even spot-testing in slew mode will bring obvious, glaring errors to light. Testing is an integral part of the design process. There is more to mesh-design than spitting out BGLs through the resampler. The source data must be prepared, verified, fixed where necessary--and the result TESTED.While creating and distributing freeware generally may be a service to the community, creating and distributing freeware that is inadequately-tested and consequently faulty is a disservice because it not only wastes time and bandwidth and forces end-users to spend time they'd otherwise use for flying in tracking down and deleting the files that messed up their simulator. As well, part of being any sort of developer--freeware, payware, or whatever--is having a thick-enough skin to not descend into personal attacks when someone points out a flaw. It comes with the territory, Rob. And instead of personally-attacking those who point out the flaws in your products, you should say, "Thanks for pointing that out," and fix it.Simple as that.-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x
