January 26, 201214 yr Hi all,Sorry to start yet another thread on this subject, but was wondering if the following might take a little angst out of tuning XPX rendering settings for us technical luddites... especially those newcomers who are not used to the multiple tweaking options available in XPX.I notice that we now have a big button on the rendering settings page which, when pressed, sets up things for maximum smoke. It's a great idea and works well. But I'm wondering if the concept could be pushed a little further, and instead of a button we could have a slider with say 4-6 notches. Down the left would be maximum smoke, up the right would be maximum eye-candy, with various mixes in between.I know that everyone's system is different and you can't just apply a straight edge across a generic system, but it shouldn't take tooo much programming time to read the system components in the rig, apply it to a matrix of some sort and presto! That way the full range of options could be explored very quickly. You could still have the option to fettle with individual settings if you wanted too.Any 'ow just a thought.Bruce H(Oz)
January 26, 201214 yr I like that idea, BUT...(There's always a but)I think the goal of that button is to take a little bit of the natural curiosity (*and desire) that people have to run at system settings higher than their computer will allow. By having the one button to minimize all settings, it forces the user to increase their settings and details manually - and hopefully using Laminar's recommended method of doing so one-by-one.Since Laminar contends that different settings affect peoples computers in different ways... (*reflections might hurt you, but not me... but I'm affected by the texture size far more than you are), this is one place where they "get it right".It's a bit of a blunt solution to bring everything to zero and then ask your customers to move them upwards one at a time, but it is the most effective, most personalized way of making sure your individual machine is tuned for acceptable performance.-Greg
