Confused with all these Addons, Sceneries e.t.c

Featured Replies

Hi. GuysFirst of all congratulations for the community, your doig fantastic job.I just started "studying" all about the add ons of Flight Simulator which make the game more realistic. I have seen many addons while i was googling but the most frequent ones use are REX, UTX, GEX, FScene, FSGlobal. I am abit confused as to what excactly each add on enchants FSX on. So far, i believe that :REX:Sky, Clouds, whether, runwayUTX:Roads, Bridges, Railrods e.tcFSGlobal: Mountains etcGEX: texturesFScene: Scenery/texturesSo am i asking:1) Is GEX and Fscene do the same thing?2) Are any of the addons listd above overlap with each other?3) Are all addons necessary, especially if i am interested on Flying in Greek Scenery? Thanks in Advance

You seem to have understood most of it.UTX also includes more accurate placement of cities and landclass (type of vegetation = mountain, forest, urban, marsh, field etc.)The only thing that I'd consider a must is REX. Not for the sky, weather and runways, but for the ocean. REX corrects the horrible default blue soup they've called water in FSX.As for the other addons it is a matter of taste as they work a little bit different from country to country. UTX and FS Global might be great in Germany and the UK, but not so good in Greece. It all depends on your personal preferences.Personally I use REX and UTX.I don't use FSGlobal as it can make some scenery look horrible because of elevation data conflicts:attachment.php?attachmentid=1332&stc=1&d=1162937051

Thanks simmerhead for the quick respond.I will only use UTX and REX.So far i have added UTX and it only dropped my fps from 35 to 27 hence i think i can still load REX. I really liked UTX cause it made such a big difference to the terain compared to the original. I wish i coukd add all addons but my system is quite low:CPU : Dual core duo 2.4GhzRAM : 4GB RAM DDR2 533MhzHDD : 250GB 7200rpmGcard: GeForce 9800GTX+Monitor: 22'' LCD HD

You can disable som of the features in UTX to make it run faster. Also, REX can improve fps in some instances.I wouldn't worry to much about your computer. I managed using FSX perfectly on my 2006 dual core AMD 2,2GHz computer up until a month ago! Just remove some of the "eye candy" and you'll be able to have lots of fun with that computer. Focus on the possibilities, and not the limits!

Well sure thing is that i will be back for more help :-P, untill then... thanks alot for your kind assistance.

Too bad you don't use the FSGlobal's tool (free in many cases, even included in other FS Global products!!) AFM - Airport Flattening Meshes specifically designed to solve your problem.BTW, If you're having a problem with a particular scenery (or aircraft) add-on, it's always a good idea to check with the developper for a slution first! ;-)Cheers,- jahman.
